For a long time I've wanted to know how many Valiant Sedan Deliverys were made for the government or the military, and what years were they made. Some time in the 60's I was coming home from Indy and stopped at a restaurant near Bunker Hill Air Force Base and there was a blue Valiant sedan delivery in the parking lot with Air Force markings on the door. I had seen several windowed 55-56-57 Chevy sedan deliverys that were made for military and the forest service so I wasn't too surprised to see a Valiant that was special made too. Any one have any facts and figures on these special Valiant deliverys?

I went to lots of Federal auctions in the 1970's and never saw a Valiant sedan delivery. I saw (and bought) quite a few Fairlane and Belvedere SD's. The VINs on the Mopar SD's that I bought started with 'RL45' just like a regular base-line station wagon, so coming up with production numbers may be difficult.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the absence of windows what differentiates a station wagon from a sedan delivery?

I wonder if that is a Canadien made only model Or did some Air Force maintenance shop convert it into a sedan delivery so no one could see what was being transported in it I've have seen station wagons converted into sedan deliveries by custom auto body builders, those looked better than the originals did

Barris did this one for the Duke. They're restoring it now.

Sedan deliveries used by the US Government (from the late sixties on up) looked like station wagons from the outside, and had a factory-installed load floor (platform) on the inside instead of a back seat. Earlier versions of sedan deliveries (1930's-'50's) had metal where the side windows went and looked like car-based panel trucks.

The big difference was the tailgate. Sedan deliverys had the one piece rear hatch. Station wagons were split into two piece. Here's a pic of a 58 Chev windowed delivery too.

I saw a 65 Chevelle sedan delivery in Lafayette, IN around 1978 or so. It was green and had no side windows, to me that is a sedan delivery.

I'd venture that a Valiant sedan delivery would have had to have a separate body code, since I've never seen a two door Valiant station wagon. The Air Force unit I saw had only two doors and metal panels in the rear, not glass. That's not to say that it wasn't a one off, but that's why I'm asking.

There was an article in MCG magazine years ago about on that had been made into a pro street car. There was some info on it.

IIRC, the pro street car was blue and silver. But that was years ago.

Anyone have any information on these? I understand they were made for Bell Telephone back in 60-61-62? Photos, specs, anything?

That link was the mother load of information I was looking for. I didn't google it cause I was sure the Moparts army would have more info than anyone else. As it turns out, I was right in my assumption.

And thanks to everyone for proving that I wasn't hallucinating after having a really bad meal.

No they(I) didn't offer any information of their(my) own.

All I did was Google it. You could have done the same. I bet you could look deeper with Google searches and find more info.

I wouldn't call either of those a sedan delivery.

Handyman wagons used a two piece tailgates and had rear seating. I'll buy the fact that Couriers had a top hinged one piece rear gate, but all I have seen also had steel panels instead of windows on the sides. Doesn't mean that there weren't some that were made with flat load floor instead of rear seats that also had rear side glass. Here's another 57 Chevy that fits the template of a flat rear floor and a one piece rear hatch. No doubt the trim tags would tell the tale if they could be seen.
