all spooled up OP super stock A Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 1,049 ohio	how do this air cleaners perform on a street and strip cars. do u lose power over a big di air cleaner. anyone run one at the strip make a pass then change out to a bigger one like k and n make more power thanks

buildanother I Live Here B Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 11,543 chicagoland,usa	I was racing at a test and tune in a solid street coro r/t with 498" wedge, tti all the way to the back, and car ran 12.20 -12.22 in about 7 passes. Took unsilenced air cleaner off for grins, and car ran the same et's. The exhaust was holding that car back a little I'm sure.

If you have an aftermarket intake you will need a drop base in order to clear the hood. I've always just run the base plate at the track. If not you may choke the engine. I use the cheap Edelbrock chrome flat aircleaner base with a K&N filter for the 66-/6-225 = 10" x 4" tall filter under the bell/lid. I have a K&N stub stack in there also. that seemed to help thorottle response off idle and does not seem to choke it any on the WOT. I had it, so I run it. does it help? who knows. I sure hear it on a hard WOT blast but cruzing I do not hear it. but I am only feeding a JY 318 with a whiplash roller cam, I am sure a bigger 14" air cleaner would be better for big cubic inch motors that need the air flow. 8205348-progress4airbreather.jpg (117 downloads)

An unsilenced air cleaner is less restrictive than a '71 dual snorkel. it was the 71 340 A or E body style with the two oval cut outs without the snorkel, but probably just as restrictive.
