My RB-engine has valvetrain oiling through the rocker shafts. Do the new pushrods that I will have to order have to be solid or can they be of the "oil-through"-style? Oil-through are readily available, solid don't seem to be. Will I have to worry about it? More oil consumption with the oil-through ones?

I run a spray bar system and oil through the pushrods as well, no problems. Run the oil through pushrods, it should be just fine.

BB never oiled thru the pushrods , plenty of splash , though it's not a bad idea to add it if you are running high spring pressures , one less thing to worry about , if it's a stockish build then you should be fine. If you are getting custom length pushrods you can specify oil thru or not.

There won't be any oil consumption, just more oil going down the center of the block back to the pan and probably a slight oil pressure drop because you have oil going thru more flow paths.

Your gonna order the oil through push rods... the
lifter is what tells it weather its gonna oil through
the push rod or not but you still want oil through
even with the oiling system you have

Lifters are compcams 822-16 which have an orifice for sending metered oil through the pushrod. The engine is just a little above stock with a bit over 300 lbs spring pressure at open valve. So if I understand your comments right I am ok to order oil-through pusrods. Thanks for all your help!

It doesn't really matter on the oil hole or no oil hole for your application, I wouldn't order them with the holes I've ran many motors with solid lifters with175 lbs on the seats and 375 lbs open with a non oil hole pushrods, the round contact surface on the end of the ball and inside the cup is greater without the holes than with the holes

I wouldnt worry about the oil in the push rods.. at least
if you wanted to change to push rod oiling your set
and at your open pressures it wont matter at all about
loading area on the balls... I run close to 900#
on the oil through push rods and lots of rpm and they
have never had any issue... ask the push rod company
but if you want you can order them with a .040 restriction
(maybe less) to keep the oil down a bit

I oil through the push rods. I had to restrict the oil holes in my tappets (Comp 892). The holes in the pushrods are over .100. Resulted in low oil pressure. Restricted the lifters to .040". Lesson learned, get the correct orifice. Other than that no issues. Lash stays constant. .800" lift 300# on the seat.
