I have a '73 Challenger street/strip car that I've recently put an electric water pump, fan, and fuel pump on and the stock alternator can no longer keep up. I have already bypassed the bulkhead connecter with 6AWG wire with the appropriate fusible link. Is there a 100-Amp alternator being made (preferably something smaller like a Denso) that bolts in the same way and can use the stock wiring harnes. I'd prefer not to butcher the wiring to go to a 1-wire if I can help it. Thanks!

I have a 120 amp denso alt that I think is for a late 80 early 90 doge van.pretty much a bolt on.but had to change the alt bracket spacers and had to change the field wire ends from a spade to a eyelet. Now Andy F makes alt mounting bracket kit for this alt that is very nice.mines been on my car for over 2 years and not have had any problems.

Thanks! How different is the mounting on the Denso? I run a Meziere water pump so I've made my own brackets to fit the stock alternator. Of course those problems would be eliminated if I go with the one CAB recommended. Any difference in power loss? Shame Summit doesn't stock the factory-style one in cast finish.

The mounting points are the same as stock.I just had to make some new spacers.I am running the Mopar aluminum water pump housing.mines a big block.I couldn't really tell a power loss.but wasn't really looking.look at duster Dave's post.that is the same alt that I have.

I also use a GM CS130 but I do not use it in one wire form.

You won't notice a power loss unless you're at full change putting out 100 amps. Most of the time it will be 'free wheeling' under light load.

If it does go to full charge, I wouldn't image more than a 5hp loss, which you'd never feel on a butt dyno

I use a rewound CS140 with the heavy Duty diodes and remote voltage sensing that is hooked way back at the battery in the trunk.

It that basically bolts right in with a simple $30 bracket adapter. It puts out 115 amps at low idle and over 220 amps if it ever needed it at fast idle. It never puts out that much these days though, as I don't have the amp load without a stereo & amps.

You can get one out of an Escalade at a wrecking yard for cheap or at any of the auto parts houses.

Of course, I upgraded the rest of the electrical system using a modified MADD set-up.

Why? A/C, big electric fuel pump, the big twin Spal fans, electric windows, H4 relayed headlights, MSD and some day some decent music.

It almost even looks stock. No one ever notices it, or the A/C pump, mounted below it with the Bouchillon under alternator brackets and the re-routed belt drives to give significantly more belt to pulley wrap/contact.

I definitely would not hook this up to a stock or mildly modified Mopar wiring system without significant upgrades/mods. It uses a 2 gauge cable with a 250 amp fuse to feed my main power distribution lug under the hood. Then it's all big gauge cables, wires, fuses, and relays with quality Marine Grade wire fusing and related components from there.

Thanks y'all! If the 85-amp denso will feed it, that's what i'll probably do. The current 65-amp unit is basically very marginal now so I'd rather not run it at 100% duty cycle. Mike definitely has a point about using one that you can get at any auto parts store.
