That is nice! Hey, I had the same problem timing my engine. I did it the way you did and it was way off when I got done. Then I was told you have to have your dampner at 0 top dead center. Then point the rotor at #1 tower. Then run the engine and turn the distributor back so it is timed at 10 btc. Try that I think it might help. Of couse a new chain wouldn't hurt either. Ron.

Well, found a newer magnum 360 to install, will be taking a trip this weekend to get it---that'll wake the old ram up. I'll be needing a carb intake and the specially weighted flexplate for it. Its really what i wanted from the beginning so i guess its a good thing, even though the timing is off moneywise. Off course updates to follow......

Ok, im curious of opinions here---im getting that 360 magnum motor this weekend, been thinking about the front of it. Should i put on all the premagnum stuff and make it so i can use the mechanical fuel pump, or should i leave the serp belt setup on it and run an electric pump? I kinda like the idea of the serp setup, but im not sure how much of a pain its going to be to make things fit or convert them.

I think I would try the serpentine setup. One big problem with a mechanical pump is mounting the fuel pump eccentric on the front of the camshaft. I understand most magnums do not have enough camshaft sticking out of the timing gear to drive the eccentric. You might be able to drill the eccentric and gear to pin them together somehow.

Thanks RangerDan

Yea, the more im thinking about it, the more i think im going to try and get the serp belt setup to work. I guess, i'll just run an electric pump, i'll have to dig up one of my holley blues i guess. The next biggest hurdle for me is figuring how to wire up the late model alternator.

I would definately go with the serpentine belt setup. It's a lot cleaner look in my opinion. If I could find a low cost setup for my 440 I'd be all over it. And I'm a big believer in electric fuel pumps. Way more efficient than mechanical. It's so nice to just turn the key and know you'll have a supply of gas right there instead of having to crank the engine over a couple times to fill the carb. Just my opinion.

I am a big believer in electrics also, however im trying to keep myself falling into the trap i was in before and making my street car a race car due to the "if some is good, more is better" theory. I have to think sensibly about this whole project or the wife is going to kill me. Im still and will be paying off the last project for a long long time.

Now, back to the trucks. So here is the plan, drop in this 94 magnum motor, add a carbed intake (not sure if an air gap or regular dual plane -- i want tourqe/mid range power), see if i can get the serp belt stuff to work, and wire the alternator up. Then i should have a very smooth running, good power engine to tote around in. Then get all the stick shift parts in and have some real fun.
