Are header flanges that you buy machine flat on both sides ?

A friend is crying that his HP manifold is to close to his valve cover and burning the paint off. He doesn't want to spend the money to have the manifold machined at angles and possibly crack down the road so the thought is to use a header flange and 2 gaskets .

Thanks

Most are not.. mainly because they figure you will
be welding on the flanges to build headers... but they
are flat enough to seal as is since he is just using
them as a spacer

I've made spacers before, it is a fairly simple process. Or use the motorhome gasket. I use the motorhome gasket on my Coronet engine which has HP manifolds on it.

He already has the motorhome gasket but thinks it's not going to make a difference as the manifold is real close to it ??? We'll break in the cam with one of my junky covers then swap on his cover , I've talked to schonefeild(sp?) they make the 1.750 tube to order so I might be able to get it with the bolt head side unchamfered ?

I don't have the time to make them when it would be done without paying for my time .
