This guy from the Sacramento Mopar club was clearing out some stuff.
" Hey, you want these Hedman Headers? They are new but don't fit power steering "
"Sure. Free is my favorite price."
I checked the part #. 78050. The instruction sheet I read online listed that they actually DO fit power steering cars.
The car: 73 Dart Sport 340. The 340 was long gone so I put in a 4 barrel 360. These Headman pipes hit everything. The right side is a no brainer in most cases but not with this car. The idler hits. The pipes hit the torsion bar. The pipes rest against the oil pan. I'm going to have to pull them for some serious "clearancing".
The left side actually seems like a better fit. I'll know more tomorrow.
I hate spending the big bucks on TTIs or Dougs, but that extra money sure saves a bunch of cussing and tool throwing.

Ran into the same thing on my 68 Dart... Headers suck, but I wasn't going to spend $200+ on the correct manifolds....

Check to see if the motor mounts are out of spec.

I could understand that cheap headers will need some work to fit.
The RH side is just AFU though. The engine sits deal level in the bay.
There is one pipe pressed against the pan and another wedged against the torsion bar. The 4 pipes are routed together at that point. This is just piss poor manufacturing. An engine with crash damage or worn engine mounts will certainly cause some fitment problems but I have a stock 360 oil pan and .85 T bars. The idler arm is a stock type, not the longer Fast Ratio one. I had to unbolt the steering box and move it against the fender apron to get the extra 3/4" to get the LH header in. Now it looks like once I move it back over to bolt up it will be really close.

Hedman headers are a big joke. No wonder they were free . I remeber a friend some years ago bought a pair for his 67 Dart and tried to make them fit. They ended up smashed flat from frustration and pure wrath!

I've been wanting to get some headers for my '73 318 Dart aswell for some time but never got the guts to break out the wallet and end up paying for 1 or 2 days of misery trying to install them.
I already get claustrofobic when I look into the Dart's enginebay...

Fortunatly a set of shorty headers came up for sale recently which I snatched up along with a 4bbl intake.
By eyeballing the enginebay and the shorties I think I have a much easier time installing these then a set of full length headers.

Bet they still didn't fit.

To the OP, I bet if you try to return the headers there will be a re stocking fee.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I love my Hedman Hustlers, some of the easiest headers I've ever installed on an A body. A lot easier than TTI.

I just put a set of hooker competition headers on a small block Aspen, went right after taking steering apart to run through driver side. I put a set of cheap flow techs on my 68 small block dart and they also went in without any trouble. Never tried headmans.

Here's the trick to get your Heddman's to fit. I've installed three sets in small block A-Bodies and they ALL needed these mounts. You need the thick big block truck insulators pictured.

Interesting...with a brand and part# in the pic as well- nice! These thicker mounts are still available for both RH and LH sides?

Here's my thought on headers...

Unless yer going racing, find a good set of OEM manifolds, extrude-hone 'em for some better flow...

And save yourself a ton of grief...

Do you still own horses? Pay more to extrude hone a set of stock exhaust manifolds than for a good set of headers, are you KIDDING

Those thicker motor mounts probably would help someone with a 67-72 car. This one is a 73 with the spool mounts.
Also, I doubt the taller/thicker mounts would help on the RH side. One pipe rests against the oil pan, another against the torsion bar. The thicker mounts would probably lift the engine high enough to allow the idler arm to swing.

The engine is a stock July 1977 360 4 barrel from a truck. I tapped and plugged the air injection holes.
