Meant to post this on this board and must have hit the wrong one...

Wondering if anyone has tried it? Figured I would machine the cloverleaf out to match the adapter. Thoughts are appreciated.

I'm running a Quickfuel 4150 series carb on a Super Victor with a 4500 series manifold. the Quickfuel carb fits both style of manifolds, since changing from the Dominator to the 4150 the manifold works real well down low, more drivabilty around the pits.

Rebel,

I saw a post of yours from awhile ago where you had done a great deal of work on a 440-3 intake. You had removed the cloverleaf and shortened the runner extension into the plenum. I am just wondering if I machine out the cloverleaf to match the adapter would there be any issues. I can't see running it without as it would seem like a ton of turbulence.

I make a shear plate adapter that works for that application. You need a dual pattern base plate on the carb. With this adapter you won't need to machine the intake.

Andy,

Looks like a really nice setup. Out of curiousity, could the 4500 studs be removed and countersunk bolts be used to hold it down and then drill and tap it for the 4150 studs. Or are the dual pattern base plates easy to come by?

Benforsp, bite the bullet & buy a dual pattern base plate carb, with the carb i bought, i now know this carb will fit all my street/strip big block combos. compared to the stock Holleys this carb is a work of art. if you look at my previous pic you'll see i made my own shear plate from phenolic plastic to seal up the transition between the 4500 & 4150 series carbs, but it dont look as flash as Andys one but it does the same job. as for cutting out the intake runners on the Indy manifold. it was the best thing i did, it made plug reading so much easier when every plug became the same colour. i don't understand why Indy made their manifold this way, the Super Victor wasn't like this & it works great.

I used a 750 alky Holley on a Domintor pattern manifold, and it worked great with that combo. I used a 2 inch adaptor upside down. I think the extra plenum volume was a help, running a 475 cube motor with that small carb.

Rebel,

Do you have a picture of the finished product on the cutting on the runner extension on the manifold? I think the older post I saw you were debating between two different ways to cut them but I didn't see which one you picked or if you knife edged etc.

Simon

Greg,

That looks like what I may have to do I have a spacer designed to adapt a 4500 to 4150 it's just the transition is a mess inside the plenum. Here is a picture of it hopefully you can see the cloverleaf through the top of the adapter.

No pictures, but I rounded off all the flats , no sharp edges. Thank you Indy for leaving that intake manifold 1/2 done! Your best bet would be to get some pictures of intakes with the same sort of intrusion into the plenum, and copy it. The longer the runners, the better, IMHO. I remember having a pretty big pile of aluminum chips when done with mine.

I would think that the Wilson approach will work much better than the Indy approach.

Thanks for the responses and the pictures. That sheds a lot of light. So it seems its better to leave the extensions into the center instead of machining them back to meet the manifold opening? I guess I have a lot of work to do. Thought it might be simplier.

Btw, Andy you may or may not remember but you sold me a welded stroker crank 6-7 years ago before you were BMOC around here:). All kidding aside, I am grateful for everyone's help.

Simon.
