That looks awesome and the perfect distance away! I might take my Scion out to the June event and possibly take out my Dart to the October event if it's ready and I'm free.
Are there any rules or rentals with regards to safety equipment?
Link above has all the info. Rules are pretty liberal and a basic safety check.

Glad you had fun! Sounds like you ran into Tom. That was his first event out with that car.
Yep. That was Tom. He parked next to my Scion and the first thing he said was, "You have a Dart, right?!" I may join him and the guys for a couple events down in San Diego.
To be honest, I was surprised at how well that Valiant performed. It didn't do too bad for what it was. It did fairly well compared to some of the high dollar cars. It was a pretty basic setup too. I'm building my Dart similarly to that Valiant, so I'm excited.

PICS! PICS!
I didn't take many/any pics. All I had was my phone and I didn't want it to die. Unfortunately, my gopro mounted to my windshield died too after about 4-5 laps or so. I'll edit the videos of each run individually as well as film some more for the MuuMuu Report. I just need time to edit and cut it all.

Samy, it was a pleasure meeting you, turns out the Valiant was running on 7 cylinders (bad plug) and the course was very tight, leaving me at crazy low RPM s due to the a833 OD second gear ratio. Hoping to put on a better show at next weekends Qualcom CAM event!

Here are some of my GoPro shots from on top of my car... Notice how the audio has approved greatly. 4th Lap - 44.046 secs: I was still trying some new things and figuring out when would be the best time to shift. That's why you hear the rev limiter on the Slalom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVZ6jq1YPcU&feature=youtu.be

From watching the video, and from my experience with autocrossing both my '04 Chevrolet Colorado and '12 Chevrolet Cruze, I'd suggest you make one upshift to 2nd gear and leave it there. One of the most important things in autocrossing is to be smooth, and that will help a lot.
For the slalom, try to make it as straight as possible (almost clip the cones on both sides), and also you'll want to apex the corners a lot closer to the turn cone than you are, even if it means washing out wider first. Brake before turn-in, and power on once you have the body moving in the right direction.
If you really want to learn this fast, go to a go-karting place and do some runs with some experienced guys.

Yeah, that was my 4th lap and I was still trying to get a good launch going and maneuvering through the slalom and the last back half of the track (which I still had trouble with by the end of the day). I ended up shifting to second after the first part of the slalom but if I kept it in second, the car would bog too much and I still didn't have enough power. By the end of the day I was getting pretty good at upshifting and downshifting where I needed to. Plus, there's no way to permanently disable traction control on the tC without pulling a sensor or a fuse. There's a button to turn it off, but it comes right back on once you hit 30 mph so I was fighting that the entire time. Plus, my Michelin Pilot Sports are a pretty soft compared to the other tires 99% of other people were utilizing.
I'm still editing my 6th and 7th lap (GoPro died after that). I started off at 48.916 seconds on my first lap and by the end of the day I was able to knock it down to 40.230 seconds (9th or 10th lap). They gave us 3 sets of runs with 3 laps each (the timing lights failed on one of my runs so I got an extra one).
6th Lap - 42.945 secs: I was shifting better but was taking my corners too fast causing me to miss my lines and not brake appropriately. As you can see, halfway through I got a little squirely bringing the back half out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHqbd2F8O6A&feature=youtu.be

See if any of your local clubs give lessons. Sometimes those lessons are for members, and usually new members only and the older member help out, then make a few runs during lunch time. Also check for the local SCCA Regional clubs, they usualy have classes for anybody.
