My son has a 2001 Jeep Cherokee with 4 litre straight 6 cylinder engine. I was driving it on the highway and all gauges failed. I tried taking battery terminal off and when I done this it seems as if security locked up. Now it starts and runs for a few seconds and then shuts itself down. Any idea of what it could be causing this problem.

Please clarify which vehicle you have. Post says Cherokee, title says Grand...two very different animals.

It's Swifty! Swifty, you toad sucker!

Soinds like a broken/shorted wire. Maybe a broken wire in the steering column?

I agree might be a broken wire in the column.GM with security systems had a big problem with that.I fixed a lot at work. Most were tilt columns.Rocky
