Getting ready to build my 440 for my Warlock. Here is what I have.

73 block
Stock forged crank
Reconditioned rods, bushed for new pistons
Ross -0 deck flat tops
Crane gold 1.6 rockers
Stealth heads

Looking for recommendations for intake and cam. I am planing on a solid flat tappet. This will be mainly a street truck. I do not really want to run a stall more than 3000. Running a 3.55 gear.

Let me hear your thoughts

A better question to answer would be what are your intentions as far as driving the truck. Do you want to cruise with it and don't care about a certian HP number? Do you want it to be stop light to stop light brawler? Does it have to run a certian number at the track? What trans are you running? What size rear tires are you running? Do intend to do a mock up of the parts and disassemble to truely zero deck the motor? Headers or manifolds? Are you really locked into running a solid flat tappet?

All these truely play parts in how I decide what a combo should be. But I can tell you if this is going to be a true street cruising type truck, a stock 4bbl intake, Performer or Performer RPM (or even M1 Dual plane) with a 650 Thunder Series carb is hard to beat---you could go to a 750 Thunder series if it makes you feel better, but for 90% mild street, it is unnecesary IMO. I have done several big blocks with this combo and it works very well. Wicked throttle response once dialed in (you have to tighten up the air door pretty good to get the bog out), decent economy too if you keep your foot out of it.

Camshaft is a little harder to pick without knowing more.

Also what CC are the valve reliefs in the pistons?

Assuming a true flat top zero deck engine with 5 cc valve reliefs and a standard Fel Pro head gasket---and assuming the advertised 80cc on the heads (I would still measure though). I come with 10.63 for compression

I swaped a 440 RPM on my 440 and is by far the best intake for a street truck 440.

I run a 750cfm q-jet with adaptor on mine. it like the holley 650 spredbore dbl pumper also.

I am swaping to a holley street dominator to ditch the square/spred adaptor. and run the holley 850 spredbore dbl pumper next.

i will be adding the hedman 79250 headers with 2.5 turnouts in front of rear wheels when i do the dbl pumper carb.

I like the 3.91sg better than my 3.23 on the street for sure. not so much on a long trip but sure fun around town.

I plan to drive it and yes, it should be a stop light brawler. It may see a little track time, but I don't have a number in mind. Currently running a stock 727, it will be built up some with the 440. Running a 295-40-18 tire, measures 28". The truck is also mini tubed (2 1/2) so I can run a decent slick if I go that direction. I do plan on zero decking the block. Running some block huggers with 2 1/2 all the way out. I don't want to step up to roller, but I think I want than hydraulic. I am looking at Lunati 60340 and 60341, but not sold on either one.

I am running a 650 DP on my 400 and have a 850 DP hanging on the wall (I figure I will start there). I'm not certain on the piston relief cc. As far as intake, I will be going with at least an RPM.

All in all this is a play toy to beat on and raise hell.

Thank,
Chris

The 60340 (current part# 30230740) Would be my choice, and make sure you get a good converter to go along with it. But I do still feel that there are hydraulics that could do just as well, but if your going to stick with a solid, based on your wants, that is what I would go with. The only issues I have with the Hydraulics is they are not on as tight a centerline--but they can custom cut it for you.
