AZ - The "dry heat" state
I have a small block i just finished putting together, i used a set of used 273 adjustable rocker arms with pushrods (7.2"+-) and am running a hydraulic cam. I have 2 rocker arms for exhaust valves that have virtually no adjustment. Meaning the adjuster is completely backed out, and the pushrod is somewhat jammed under the rocker. I can spin the pushrod with my fingers, but it is tight. The remaining 16 rockers/pushrods adjust just fine with a few threads showing under the rocker arm on the pushrod side. None of the pushrods are different from the others and the rockers look to be normal production tolerance, none are modified. What would my best course of action be to correct this?

I would say 2 choices... look at the adjuster itself
and pull a good one to check it against or the rocker
is a little thicker in the adjuster area... measure
that area to another rocker... or the lifter cup is
up higher

All the adjusters are new comp cams with the lock nut. I was thinking the rocker was just thicker compared to the others, although i have not pulled them yet. Would it be advisable to trim the lower portion of the rocker for clearance?

It could be cut if its thicker... what is your spring
pressure

lay a straight edge across the ends of the valves to see if they are longer than the others

I suggest you check to make sure the ball end of the push rod is seated in the center of the lifter. Sometimes they can get stuck on the outer edge of the lifter and you will have no way to adjust them.

Spring rate (comp cam 901-16) is 353. Straight edge across the valve showed no measurable difference all pushrods are seated properly.

Measure the vertical thickness of the adjuster area
to another ... you might take .010 or more off the
bottom to get you the clearance... but there is a variable
somewhere you havent seen yet

Thanks for the input. Since i have the day off, ill pull one side and check all the rockers. Ill report back with the findings.
