A couple of people in my club are still stressing the 8.75 rears. I offered the older one my Dana 60 that I narrowed with a PowerLock 4.10, 35 splines axles. The rear was narrowed to fit my '87 and the only drawback to the deal is that the bolt pattern is 5 on 5.5" and the brakes are 12" drum. So buy some 16" wheels with the big pattern and run ProStock slicks, no problem. His son turned me down on Facebook saying "...we will never break the 8.75...". The kid has already exploded a 727, but "...he will never break an 8.75...". I used to think I had all the answers, too until I realized I did not even know all the questions And no, I have no idea what their 60 foots are. I do know they are still running the SBP axles

I still have my alum center.... I have 1 question for the OP... did both caps have full threads in them... I know of a few that were sold that had very shallow threads in one side or the other

Not mine, its out of friends car. Lasted for long time foot braking. That was probably the the 7th or 8th pass using the trans brake.
Not sure about the threads Mr. P Body. That center section has been in the car for years. Probably would have stayed together foot braking, trans brake was too much for it.

Stock suspension on 275s. Car weighs around 3300. Looks to me like the ring gear came apart and then jammed everything up causing the case to crack. But that's just speculation on my part.

Housing flex can use the axel as a pry bar and bad things happen. At launch The wheels cause the housing ends to Bananna forward and POP! I finally went to a Moser Dana and forgot about it. I use the trans break every pass now.
I dont worry about that, I'm back braced and I tell everyone to back brace a 8 3/4 or a 9"

Don't matter........on radials and spray, it never had a chance. Surprised it lasted as long as it did. You can back brace the housing to the moon and back, that don't help the weak case.

Well I'm glad I run slicks and dont spray... mines doing fine... the alum case is supposedly 20% stronger than the iron one and mainly due to the bolt through caps

Mike..... Get real..... Lol
Your lasts because the car doesn't weigh anything, and you hardly ever get it out to race. That's why it lasts... Lol

Three of those bolts are through the case and the fourth is a stud. What threads are you talking about?
