15 cars seen rd 1 qualifying, i'll let Jard hits all the numbers, CW sr was #1 8.75, but what a suprise was #2 Q, brand new John Holt Built, Jackson /eng /tech powered car of Stephen Hebert (and this was his first run ever in this car!!!!)
8.76-151
One car is already gone though, Rick Houser broke the motor in the Jim DeFrank & son's cuda.

Sorry I couldn't post times today. We've had nothing but problems. I have no Internet access at the hotel and am posting with my iPhone. Hopefully tomorrow I can make it to a computer.

Ok... So I lied when I said I didn't have internet access. It turns out that the Luxor likes to hide the Ethernet cable BEHIND the T.V. where you can't see it.

I remembered to bring the qualifying sheet and ladder from the track, but I left it in the car which is now buried somewhere in valet parking so I'll give you what I can off of memory.

1. CW Jr. 8.73 @ 152.47
2. CW Sr. 8.75 @ 154
3. Stephen Hebert 8.76 @ 152
4. John Rains 8.78 @ 150
5. Rick Houser 8.88 @ 145 (broke on this run)
6. Dave Raybourn 8.89 @ 149
7. Jim Pancake - saw him go 8.90 but not sure if that was his best pass
8. Mark Vieira - pretty sure he ran either a .90 or .91
9. Fred Henson 8.93 @ 148
10. Bob Mazzolini 8.97 or 8.98 @ 148
11. Ogburn 9.00 @ 148.28
12. Don Bales 9.03 @ 145
13. Peter Wille 9.03 @ 149
14. Gary Moore 9.31 @ 143
15. Jenkins 12.02 @ 74

I'm not sure if I'm completely accurate with all this as I'm doing it from memory. Specifically I'm not positive I've got the 6-7-9 cars in the right spots.

CW and Co. have been dominate. More of the same in the morning I'm sure. We get one run @ 9 a.m. that won't count for qualifying and then go into eliminations @ 11 a.m. Pacific Time.

Charlie Westcott Jr. over John Rains in the Hemi Shootout Final. 8.67 for CW to an 8.76 for Rains. In Rains' defense the car spun the tires about 30 feet out.

Charlie also had low ET for the day at an 8.63 @ almost 154. CW Sr. went an 8.66 @ 156. If your last name wasn't Westcott you went home without an 8.6 timeslip.

Congrats to Charlie and crew.

What does that adjust out to since Vegas is a altitude track.

The correction factor for Las Vegas is .9757

8.630 x .9757 = 8.42

I can add that after the "parade lap" showing
in front of the grandstands before 1st round
of eliminations Bob Mazzolini's cuda had the
fuel regulator crack open and spray fuel all
over, lucky it happened before the run and
they pushed the car back to the pits and
loaded the car back into the trailer for the weekend.

decal courtesy of drew olson of olson paint and body.

I think the real winners were the people that were able to participate in the event. All the fast cars were there, and it shows that all it takes is a little $$$ and some hype and there can be a race that everyone will come to. As I type this we are sitting in a wal-mart parking lot waiting for the tornado force winds to stop. We saw a travel trailer that blew off the hitch of a pickup about 15 mins before we could find somewhere to stop.

Since Ogburn never does the random thoughts anymore, I have a few.

thanks to Phil Painter, Flowmaster, M/T, Jesel, and Nitro Joe for making the race possible. Michael O bought 2 drums of gas for our use, payed our entry fee, and fed us friday night, plus he gave me 1K that I didnt plan on getting from the dutch for low et.

Thanks to Steve H for trusting me with his new car, and to the holts for doing a good job putting it together, he should be a force to be reckoned with.

Me and rains in the final again, seems like we always end up racing before its over, guess that means we always make a few rds.

thanks to my dad for helping me change convertors, and getting the cars turned around. I think people figure out quick that we dont have time to BS on race day, its always a total thrash.

It was nice to see Dave R make a few decent runs, I think he deserves a break, he has had alot of problems over the years, and he ran pretty good on saturday.

Too bad the PA. teams didnt make it out, I heard that they picked up 50 HP over the winter, would have been nice to see how that played out, I have an idea how it would have.

All in all I think 15 cars showing up to an independant race, is an accomplishment, and all went well with the exception of the track op trying to rip everyone off for 300$ to test. Guess I did ok to save my money.

Charlie, just got back home myself from the Mopars at the strip. It was one of the best run events that I have attended. Everyone involved with it should be commended on a great show. Nitro Joe, Phil Painter, and the LVMS staff out did themselves. I was impressed with the turn out of the great superstock hemi guys, all very nice people. In these times it was great to see teams from the far reaches of the U.S.A and Canada. My hat is off to you, Charlie Sr, and the rest of the Hemi Militia on another outstanding show.

The Hemi Shootout at Belle Rose was kinda pathetic!! Total of 4 cars, three of which I believe ran Southland colors and the 4th had a big Southland decal on it. Not very impressive times either. Disappointing because I've seen as many as 14 cars at the Cajum Sportsnationals. BTW "Lil" Joe won the shootout.

All in all an impressive show reportedly there were 560 cars in attendance. Top Sportsman is really getting fast!!!
