I think my linkage was never set up right. If I put my shifter in "1", it will shift to second before I move the shift lever. It will stay in second until I shift it up to drive.

Does this sound like a simple adjustment on the shifter linkage?

If so can someone talk me through the process of adjusting it?
also when downshifting from drive to second, I can control it with the shifter but shifting from second to first, it will not go into 1st until I come to a complete stop.

It the trans is left in drive, it shifts fines through all three gears on its own.

I have a shift kit and want to see if the car can "chirp" first to second but it shifts to early the way it is now.

I'd put the shifter in each position then crawl underneath each time & unhook the linkage from the trans lever & see if the trans lever is solidly in each detent in the rooster comb & if all good there in all shifter positions then that would confirm the bad news that at the very least the pan has to come off (maybe further)

Thanks for the info. Perhaps I will take it to the shop where I had the tranny rebuilt. It was done two years ago but the car still has less then 1000 miles on it and it has been like that since I got the car from the resto shop. Hopefully they will be willing to work with me.

Thanks again RR
