Looking to get an idea of how shim thickness to start with for setting up a set of gears? Starting from scratch

I really doubt if you can predict a pinion depth shim based on the gear ratio.

Are they after market gears or OEM Mopars? if after market gears it should have a number etched on the back for the pinion depth If so it may be wise to take it to a shop that can set the pinon depth for you, much better than crushing multiple crush sleeves while setting the rear end up, BTW dicth the crush sleeves and go with a solid pinion bearing spacer like Ratech offers

You don't need a crush sleeve to set the pinion preload when setting it up, only after the correct pinion depth is determined do you actually need to install a crush sleeve or spacer.
