I am nearing my 340 build and machinist didn't use my 90-degree adapter (well becasue I hadn't taken it to him yet). So now I'm debating on whether I shoud use the adapter at all.

Aside from header clearance, is there a reason for why these were installed on small block cars? Are they factory or add-ons? I will use TTI headers.

Years ago I read about modifying the passages on this adapter. Does anyone have these notes on mods?

thanks in advance!

If you have no clearance issues then there is no reason to use it. I have TTI headers and the filter clears fine without it. It is just a additional place for a oil leak.

they're factory. As you know they're for filter clearance. I ain't 100% sure on this but I'm thinking they did not have or for some reasone did not want to use teacup (short) filters. those adapters are restrictive. If you want the whole scoup from the countries' foremost SB oiling expert (& have an hour to spend perusing the info) go to www.moparchat.com then scroll down to & click on "circle track chat" & then click on Sanborns oiling mods that are in a sticky at the top of the page. FYI alot can be applied to BB's as well. His cooling mods under the oiling mods are just as awesome

..they are only required for the '68-'70 hi flo passenger side manifold for clearance.

I haven't used one since taking off my cheap blackjack headers. You won't need one with TTI headers.

This ^^^^

Don't need the 90* adapter with tti headers.

Take the existing oil filter mount plate and drill more holes in it. If it has 4 holes around the center hole, drill 4 more, same size. Helps with fluid flow.
