My dad removed a cam from his 383 this weekend thinking it was an old Crane but it's not. The cam came out of a 426 wedge in the late 70s or early 80s and he was told it was a"lumpy Crane" the only markings on it are RPD 21, and J 20 50. Ive tried googling the # with no luck. Any help would be great.

Doesn't matter. NO cam from the '70s or '80s is as good as a modern grind, if you are looking for max power.

If you are close to Dayton, give Kammer & Kammer a call. They have a cam profiling machine and don't charge very much to run the cam in it to get you the full specs.

The reason he pulled it in the first place was to swap it for a Crane hvm 272-2-nc. We're trying to figure out what it is because it dosent even seem to have as much lift as the Crane he's replacing it with and we thought the old one was much bigger than the new one.

You can measure the approximate lift yourself if you have some Calipers. Measure the base circle, then measure the max tip of the lobe and base. Subtract the base number from the max dimension and multiply it by 1.5 to get your approximate lift.

With a known lift on those older cams you can approximate the duration. Example, 480 lift/ about 238/240 @ .050 520 lift around 250 @ .050
