Carb retention bolts were "RSC" bolts and not an "H" head bolt as often promoted by "OE Correct" bolt sellers.

In case you get into an argument about what color your fan clutch seal should be, this example was red, I've also seen black ones but I couldn't verify what year they came off of.

Hey Scott, I was reading through this post again and saw you wanted a picture of the power steering pump on my old duster. This car didn't have any performance axle package, just a 3.23 peg leg car. Hard to see, but it is a solid pulley on it.. It was a relatively original car with very few things replaced over the years, water pump being one of the few things. still retained the original heater hoses, spark plug wires, and even plugs..

Scott,
I thought I had read that the power steering pump cap was painted black originally. The poor paint job didn't stick very well and usually flaked off like the dipstick. I can't tell in your post if yours is painted black.

Yes it's painted black, can, cap, cast iron body, cooler, and brackets, all black.

Is the fan stenciled or stamped..
I know what it should be, but I've seen it both ways on two different what were presented as, original 71 A-body 340's.
Thanks

Ive only seen ink stamped on original 71's, however most Ive seen were early engines from the Windsor plant, that might have changed after the move to Mound Road.

I was following this post because I knew I'd be pulling the water pump on my 71 Challenger 340 which I've owned since June 1972. I pulled the water pump yesterday and have looked at the bolts Scott has shown and mine has the same bolts. I changed the water pump in May 1974 but reused all the parts except the pump. My car has a build date of Dec 1970 at Hamtramck plant. Here's what I found. My fan clutch has a part number of 3462112 painted on it and has a blue seal. There's a white paint stamp on the fan which says "engine side". The bolts for the water pump also have nylon inserts drilled into the threads to lock the bolt in except for the top center bolt. That's what I've been able to check so far.

I'll see if I can add pictures to my post above. Let's see if it works.

Since we're looking at small block details, I'll enclose a pic of the water pump I just pulled off. It was installed in 1974. The number on it is 2951571-3-05102. It has the pentastar on it but is different than the rebuilt one. Is it a genuine Mopar part or an aftermarket produced part? I can't remember where I bought it in Tacoma Wa. I asked this on another Mopar site but got no response. Thanks.

Water pump looks to be authentic Mopar, but a later replacement casting number. The fan looks the same as the few I have. Can you make out the digits on the center of the fan clutch (date code - G17A ?).

It's either G17A or 617A. Looks closer to a G but hard to tell. It's going back together tomorrow as I want to get it in the TriCities Mopar show next weekend in Richland. I'm glad I took pictures of this while apart. I almost cleaned and painted the Fan/clutch assembly but decided to leave it as is so as not to lose the original stamps. Thanks.
Terry.

The freshly painted fan on the right is a six vane pump. I was going to install it but when I pulled the pump I installed in 1974, it's an 8 vane. I'll probably send it out to be restored by the company that did the one on the right.

Do you have any pictures of your detailed power steering box? I will be sending mine out to Firm Feel for rebuilding and will need to detail it once I get it back.
