I have to put a motor in a 70 road runner this weekend and it is getting an eddy rpm headed 440. I believe the car has power steering. TTIs are not an option. Anyone have success with any other brand of header for this application? It says to use a 2" or bigger primary tube header and these heads have angled plugs (rc12yc champion is suggested I think). Did you use a different plug that may be shorter or whose headers did you use? Thx in advance.

Restoring a car to look "only" as good as the factory made it is like getting a boob job for your wife and having the doctor make them two different sizes to seem more natural

How big of cam? You dont have to use 2" headers like they suggest. Headman has some El Cheapo 1.75" headers that have shorter length pipes that work pretty good up to 525 HP or so. Summit has a copy of them I believe that are just abit cheaper. Both less then $200

I swapped out the summit 1.75's for a set of Hooker 2" Super comps. I couldn't believe how easy they went in and the fit was really nice. They are 2 piece so that helps w/ installation. I have Stage VI heads w/ straight plugs and have no issues.

I have Hooker 1 7/8 primaries with 3" collectors and they fit good and seem to work ok with my 500 inch 12.5-1 big block. car runs 10.50's through the 3" exhaust.

I had a set of 1-3/4" Dynomax headers on our 383 then low deck 452. I am sure the fit would be very similar with a 440. Started with iron heads then switched to Edelbrock RPM heads with the angled plugs. I wish I could remember the part number for you but I do not think they make them anymore. The fit was better with the Edelbrocks in terms of plug clearance. Our car is manual steering so can not help you there on the power steering question. Certainly looks like they would clear a power steering pump, and if anything the higher deck of the 440 will help with clearance on that front. It cleared the Z-bar fine and even an original Mopar starter (now have a RobbMc starter, great unit) with a 143 tooth flywheel. Now the car is getting 1-7/8 Hooker Comps (I think, will have to check the invoice from Performance Only, just checked, #5903HKR) as the old headers were too tired and really too small for the engine now. Will know on fit with the Hookers in a couple of weeks unless the container falls off the ship.

I'm using a really old set of CPPA headers. 2" x 3 1/2". I believe the tubes are 42" long. Only slight dings on passenger side to clear edge of scattershield. They were used when I bought them. Originally came off of a 383 A body. Been on there for at least 9 Years.
Works for me
