Okay, I need some help with the locating pins on a 440 mopar block for the heads and timing cover. I have some that are mangled and need replaced. Any tips on removing the old ones? They wouldn't budge. Also, what size are they and where can I order them? They appear to be about .250 in diameter and I am assuming I will need them about 1/2 " long. I called summit and they had nothing to
offer me. They should be somewhat common. Any block that gets decked will need them. Thx. In advance.

Use a dowel pin puller to get them out of there. If you don't use the right tool you can really get yourself into a mess.

You need to buy Mopar dowel pins. The pins are a special size. Regular machine shop 1/4 dowel pins will not fit.

The head to block dowel pins are .250 diameter x .625 long. The can be a bear to get out especially if they have been hammered in too far. If they are mangled someone may have unsuccessfully attempted to remove them with a dowel pin puller tool (basically a collet on the end of a slide hammer). I usually try to drill and tap them to 10-24 or 10-32 and then slide hammer them out with a non-stainless bolt screwed in. If that fails (ir you break the tap, etc.) you will have to break out the 1/8" carbide bits and carefully whittle away at it until you can pick the shell out.

Let us know how it goes!

I am 99% sure the timing cover pins are the same size as the heads. I think they usually send six of one size and two that are bigger for the bellhousing in the engine kits.

Place a nut and washer over the dowel and weld it in the center to the dowel, with the proper wrench and a good flat blade screw driver placed under the washer pry up while turning the nut with the wrench(go easily left and right )till the dowel starts to move.Cover the engine deck and cylinder surfaces when tack welding the nut to the dowel.

Mopar dowel pins are not standard machine shop .250 dowel pins. If you try to press in .250 pins you might damage the block. The Mopar pins are a little undersized. They usually mic out at 0.248 rather than .250.
