Hi, I am building a small pile of parts to shoehorn a nicely built 440 into my 67 Barracuda. I figured since the TTI headers instructions have me pulling the torsion bars to put the headers in I should probably replace the factory 273 torsion bars for ones a little heavier for the added weight of the 440. Anyone have the Mopar Performance part # for the set I should use? Or is there another company I could use that might be better or just as good but a little cheaper? Thank you

Robert

Linked is a chart with OE and aftermarket TB sizes. In general, supply of MP TB's seems to have dried up. Firmfeel and other vendors have filled the gap. I've had good luck with FF stuff.

As far as what size to buy, that depends on application. If you plan meaningful street driving and want to be able to take a corner safely and "briskly" bigger bars are defiantly needed with the added weight. If the car is drag only, the smaller bars can help with front lift and weight transfer on launch but taking a corner may be an "oh no" experience. If you can post a bit more about your application that would help with suggestions on size.

Thank you AHY.
Wow I didn't realize there were so many choices. I definitely want to upgrade as the car is primarily a street car. Can someone tell me what the stock size the torsion bar is currently (stock 273 car)? That way I can make a good choice in the upgrade. I see on Ebay there are a couple different ones listed from Mopar but they don't state the difference between the different ones. Thank you

Ok, I did some more research and found that my factory bars should have a dia of either .850" or .870". A factory 383 car came with a dia of .890". The next step up is a .920" set. My next question should I just step up to the factory 383 bars or go one step further to the .920" bars? Again the car is just a street car that may see a drag strip once a year or so. Thanks for any helpful info.

Spend a few minutes researching say in the corners section on TB's, and even though you feel your intended use may not need anything over say .92, you do.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

For street driving and cornering the higher spring rates help a lot, especially with the heavier engine. Newer performance cars run much higher rates than 60'/70's MOPARs as part of a "balanced package" and drive well. In general, the T bar front suspension responds very well to improvements.

Getting the balance is the key. With your goals, suggest at least the .94 bars, good replacement gas shocks and factory or better front sway bar. If you want to step it up in handling, I'd suggest stiffening with welded frame connectors as a first step, 1" T bars, high end shocks and bigger front sway bar. A fully welded/gusseted K frame and gusseted LCA helps also.

Ok, I will keep an eye out for the .92 bars. I think the .99 bars will be very hard to find. What front shocks would you recommend for a nice ride but also nice handle the added BB weight. Thank you to everyone for your info.
