I am swapping a A833 overdrive transmission into my older 68 D100 with a 318. I have the transmission and bellhousing from a 83 dodge truck, the bellhousing actually looks pretty much the same as the one in my 70 dart except for the clutch z bar pivot. I need a flywheel. I looked for a new one and the 130 tooth flywheel listed for the 83 dodge truck is a different part number for the earlier 318 in the cars, both flywheels are internal balance and 130 tooth.
are they interchangeable? is the truck flywheel just heavier? the truck flywheel is a lot cheaper , and if its only difference is that it is heavier I will just get that one.

here is the specs I found from the 83 dodge D150 318 flywheel, anyone know if they are same as the car 130 tooth flywheels?
the clutch and pressure plate I found on rock auto is the same part number from 1959-87 for a 10.5" clutch

Flywheel: Solid; 31.5 lbs; PP Bolt Cir: 11.625in; Flat/Step: Flat; Crank Ctr Hole Dia: 2.16in; Crank Surface to PP Mount Surface: 1.115in; Crank Bolt Cir Dia: 3.438in; No. Crank Holes: 6; Crank Bolt Hole: .45in; Bore Dia (PP): 5.83in; Bore Depth: .65in
PP Bolt Hole thread: 3/8 x 16; No. Teeth: 130; Ring Gear Outside Dia: 13.218in; Ring Gear Inside Dia: 12.05in

The basic 130-tooth flywheel is the same from '62 to the end of production, even the same casting number....only difference is the drilling for external balance.

I have always thought that the 130 tooth flywheel was always the same unless it was for the external balance 360. but when searching for one it seems that there is some difference between the 130 tooth used in the trucks and the cars.
both napa and rockauto have them listed different.
here is the part number for an 83 dodge D100 with the A833 overdrive 4 speed, from napa NCF88215 it as listed only for vans and pickups. they don't list one for cars

Attributes $77.99
# Flywheel Teeth : 130
# Flywheel To Crankshaft Mounting Holes : 6
# Flywheel to Pressure Plate Mounting Holes : 6
Flywheel O.D. : 11"

Here is the rock auto specs for the same application

AMS AUTOMOTIVE Part # 167409 $67.79
With 10-1/2" Cover, Diaphragm Option; Flywheel Spec: FLAT
w/10-1/2" Cover; Flywheel Spec: FLAT

SACHS Part # NFW1204 $122.79
Standard; 10 1/2" Clutch

I cant find a listing for a car flywheel on either site. but if this flywheel is the same or interchangeable with the car flywheel , they are cheaper. probably because they are made overseas I would guess. any idea if they are the same?

When I converted my 87 Diplomat over to 4 speed I used a 130 tooth flywheel from a Dakota, no issues. Didn't have a pass cor one to compare it to so I can't say if there are differences.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Well, they use the same ring gear, if that helps.

I'd buy a PRW billet wheel anyway, rather than a cast one from a parts store.

looks like I wont have to worry about it for a long while any way. the truck I was going to put it in had a wiring harness melt down. the wires to the amp meter melted . looks like its time for a new harness and I don't have time now to get into that so it will be on hold until this fall probably.

I fixed my wiring problem and installed the A833 overdrive this weekend.
I got the 130 tooth parts store flywheel for $77 that was listed for the 83 dodge I got the transmission from. I know its not SFI approved but its a stock 318 in a work truck so I cant figure I am going to destroy it.
this flywheel looks like the car flywheel I have in my dart except that it is heavier, I think they would interchange with the weight being the only difference.
it is nice having overdrive in my truck, it dosent scream down the interstate like it did with the 3 speed. I was even able to make the factory hydraulic clutch slave cylinder work with this transmission.
