Lookin at some wheels now for my 74 cuda.has the offset rear spring hangers, front is all stock..was looking at 18x9.5for the rear and 17x7 or8 for the front.or 18for the front..what back spacing are you guys running? I'd like to have a 28"tall tire in the rear.and I don't wanna go to short of a tire for the front..I'm running a 5.7 hemi so header ground clearance isn't an issue.any help on tire size and back spacing would be great..thx

I run 15s, so I can't provide any direct input, but I remember a thread from less than 1 year ago where someone was asking about the YearOne Rallys, which are supposedly the right size and offset to fit stock suspension E-body. Did you search the archive?

There are some in the cornering forum, you'll have more success there.

I'm running 17x8 front and 17x9.5 rear on a '70 Challenger. It has no suspension narrowing but I have trimmed the rear fender lips and it has "rolled" type factory fenders on the front. BS is 4 1/8" front and 5 1/2" rear. Done again, the rear would be 5 1/4" BS.

Tires are 265/17/40 rear and 235/17/45 front. These sizes give no "rub" as tested under extreme conditions with TB's removed and also on the road. Many folks have run wider with either some rub or sheetmetal modifications.

Done again, I'd probably go with 18's to get ultra high performance Z rated tires in ~26-27" diameter. With 17's they are in the 25" range.

Some numbers from mine may help you. Definitely keep with the tall rear tire IMO.

Quote:

Wheels
American Racing Torque Thrust M's
Front - 17x8 with 4.5" backspacing
Rear - 18x9 with 5.9" backspacing

Notes - The rear 18s are running 3/4" wheel spacers to keep the tire off the spring. The axle has 3" studs to allow for proper lug engagement with the thick aluminum wheel and spacers. Also, that particular wheel has a different size hub for the 17 and 18. The 18" wheel will NOT fit on the front without modifying the hub on the car, or the wheel. I stumbled upon this when I got the 18s first and I wanted to just try them on the front.

Tires - Nitto 555
Front - 255/45/17
Rear - 295/45/18

Suspension
Front ride height - 24 1/2" from the ground to the center of the wheel well.
Rear ride height - 26"

Front suspension is stock torsion bar suspension. The rear has super stock leaf springs with 1" lowering blocks. (~about stock height)

Rear clearances - 1/2" from the tire to the leaf spring, and 1/2" from the tire to the 1/4 panel. 1" for the same locations, but to the actual rim lip.

Here are some 17x11 Billet Specialties, Street Lites.

There is not as much tire choices with 17 as 18 but in my case I wanted a bit of sidewall for drag racing. 325 45 M&H Drag radials.
