Have a 2000 Jeep. Something in cabin is draining the battery. Anyone aware of a common problem? Lost manual and trying to find fuse box diagram.

You can track down the problem without the box layout as long as you know where the box(s) are. Still, a parts store service manual would be a big help.

As a troubleshooting step, find which circuit (or fuse) is causing the drain. With everything off, pull the negative battery cable and hook a test light between the battery post and terminal. Any meaningful drain will light the light at least a little. If there is no light or it is very dim, hook a multimeter between the post and cable. Set it on DC amps and check for current on the highest amp setting. Back down the amp setting until you can measure the drain.

It is normal to have some small drain. 20 mA is "good" 50 mA is on the high side. With your problem, it is probably quite a bit higher.

Next, pull fuses one at a time and check drain. When the drain drops you have found the problem circuit.

fuse labels are often on the underside of the cover for the fuse compartment. Both under hood and under dash. As said, pull fuses one at a time until the drain stops, then you have found the problem circuit.

Rear wiper motor....

Many times the alternator has shorted diodes and that's the culprit. After you do the battery cable test described in an earlier post, disconnect the alternator plug and try the test again. If the test light goes out or gets much dimmer, the alternator is the problem.

electric fans are knpwn to stay on overnight..

My money is on electric seat position adjustment. Don't know if it's a common problem with GCs, but my Toyota ('86) had that problem, and friend's '03 Envoy is doing it also. Found the culprit in the Toyota (pinched wire under seat). Can't determine the Envoy issue with seat yet, as she lives 1-1/2 hours away, but disconnecting seat harness under driver's seat eliminates battery drain.

The test light is one of the best tests.You will have some draw as it keeps the computer and radio alive but will be very dim.Most will light the light fairly bright when you first hook it up as it powers up all memories.Just make sure the light has a bulb.Ones like Snapon that uses a fuse type wont work right.Ive found most are interior lights or the alt.Did a lot of electrical work when I was at the shop.Jeeps had some bad wiring.Rocky

Used a test light. If I'm looking at this right, 5,7 and 17 are the fuses involved. All seem to be drawing low amount. Have yet to try the meter.

Under the hood, in another box, are another set of fuses and relays. There is a 50 amp fuse that if pulled the voltage draw is removed. Still trying to find out what it is.

I use one of the cheap test lights mostly.They are like 5 bucks and have the small acc type bulb.I have another one thats fancy and gives a beep when it lights.Good for doing work when you cant see the light.Ive used them since the 80s at the shop.Just cant use them for 5 volt reference stuff.Rocky

The best way I found to test it is the same way Chrysler told me in training. That is use an amp gauge that will read in milli amps. Any over 50 milli amps is above the normal and needs to be fixed. And you may have to wait up to 20 minutes sometimes for controllers to time out when you hook an amp gauge between the battery and the battery cable. Ron
