I know this is going to be a stupid question, but I bought one of those oil pump priming bits that you put in your drill to spin the oil pump and prime the oiling system in your engine, and I'm not sure how to use it. Where is the hexagonal shaped hole to receive it? Do you have to reach in the distributor hole and take out the gear that has the slot in it that the bottom of the distributor shaft fits into? If so, don't you just get to another gear, the one on the camshaft? what then?

Yes, take out the distributor and take out the intermediate shaft. A big flatblade screwdriver twisting it while pulling up helps. Insert a hex shaft into a drill and turn it counterclockwise. It's actually pretty easy.

Pull the gear out and you will see the pump drive.

Bump the eng till the rotor is at the #8 plug wire then pull the dist and intergear/shaft. Insert the hex priming shaft & with the drill turn it CCW to prime the DR head. Then bump the eng 3/4 of a turn clockwise till the timing slit on the dampener is at TDC on the timing tab & drill prime CCW again to oil the pass head. Back up the crank CCW roughly 1&1/4" (20 BTDC) then come forward easy to 15BTDC (wild cam) or 10BTDC mild cam & remove the hex shaft & replace the intergear/shaft & start by clocking the slot parallel with the crankshaft but adj it as needed so (A) the rotor is under the #6 cap terminal with (B) the magnet dead even with the tooth and (C) the vac can pointed to the pass fender. Maintaining the #1 & therefore the #6 plug wire position in the dist cap is beneficial for standardization & WILL help you on down the line but the intergear slot can end up anywhere especially as some dizzys have way different top rotor to bottom tang phasing (clocking). Timingwise you are now ready to start it. EDIT Additionally beforehand I would make a mark on the dampener 2&1/4" clockwise from the OE timing slit & then when it fires turn the dist to that mark (35.5 deg) with vac adv capped for the 30 min breakin if you dont have a dialback. Slide the shaft in until it bottoms out and put a mark on the shaft where it meets the bronze drive bushing. Now put tape around the hex shaft so you don't damage the bronze bushing in the block. Also I just got my wife to operate the drill while I slowly turned the engine over with a breaker bar to ensure all the bearings and the valve train were lubed as per Ehrenberg's recommendation. Worked perfect.
