Hey Everyone, It sure has been a while since I've posted, and I figured I would throw up a build thread since I haven't in a while. We have a 542ci. 400 based engine coming together right now that will be going into dad's 1962 Plymouth Fury. This car has been with dad since 1971, and used to be his daily driver all year round in the 70's. It has had many different combos over the years. It has sat dormant in the shop for quite some time, the last time it was raced was 2004. The last time it was on the street I am told was 1982??? (I wasn't born yet) over the years we have picked away at my car here and there building small blocks, and trying different things, so we haven't put much focus on the Fury. The Fury will be returning to street duty this year, as well as the race track with the new lung under the hood. I will post up some pictures later, but to get things started, here is a quick run down of what we will be doing. Some details are left out because we haven't nailed them down yet. Feel free to fire any questions my way! Thanks for checking in! Pro Systems SV1 (1180cfm) Edelbrock Victor 383 intake Edelbrock Victor 440 heads cut to 65cc chambers. 14.2:1 compression. 289ish/294ish @ .050" solid roller. .820ish lift (again, haven't ordered this yet.) Ross pistons GRP Aluminum rods, 2.200" rod bearing, 6.600" in length. Callies 4.500" Magnum XL crank SD Concepts aluminum main caps and girdle system 2" primary headers with 3-1/2" exhaust. Again, I know this is kind of vague on details, but I will update info as we go along. Thanks! -Kenny

Nice motor and SWEET ride.............
Thanks! Hard to believe it used to have an A833 4.88 gears, and studded winter tires on it eh? I have some old pictures of it I will try to dig up.

Is this being built with a factory passenger car block? Or an aftermarket low deck block?
Using aluminum rods and 4.5" stroke will require some clearancing, and it is unlikely to be able to use a standard internal oil pickup tube. But external oil line(s) to the pan is readily available.
What rod length are you going to use?
Girdled stock block. The pan and oil line is already built. I will add the rod length when I am back at the shop. Thanks.

Thanks guys! Like I said, it's been around a lot longer than me! Here is a picture from before it was painted. That is me standing beside it haha. I've grown a wee bit since then. -Kenny

mshred, the 400 is rumored to be a much stronger block than the tall deck block. Wow this thing is going to make some steam. What kind of horsepower and e.t.s are you shooting for? How much does it weigh?

That I know, but I have always thought that much stroke would have clearance or piston skirt issues in a stock block? Not to mention piston speed vs. block strength
I am not saying it can't be done, this is just what I have read on forums and books...Like I said, will be awesome to see what it does. Joss builds some nice stuff

The largest stroke we have run in a stock block, which was in a 440, was a 4.775" billet. We have run a 4.5625" in a 400 block. I am quite confident this combo will work well. Power wise, I’m not too sure where we will be. I personally am more familiar with the small block stuff. Whatever it makes, we are going pretty much max effort trying to get the most power we can out of the victor head. Good chance we will run it on 94 octane on the chassis dyno with a meth kit. Like I said earlier, the car is going back on the street. The car weighed 3610lbs. With driver, with the iron headed low deck in it. It is all steel, mild steel cage. Again, not too sure what it will run. I’d really like to see a 9 out of the car, but I am sure we will have a lot of sorting out to do with the car after sitting for so long. Everything is at least 10 years old on this thing. Still has two Holley blue pumps hanging under it. Thanks! -Kenny

Did the 4.56 stroke have to use a 2.2 or 2.1 rod bearing? What was the Compression height of the piston?
Greg, I do not have that info off the top of my head right now, but when I am at the shop later, I'll be sure to get that for you. As you can imagine, it is quite a short piston, the CD was 1.1XX I believe. It was an off the shelf Eagle H Beam rod, I can tell you that. Thanks!
