Hi,
I have a small block 74 E body that i want to swap over to a big block.
Is there a conversion motor mount kit of do i have to change the K Frame?
Also what diameter torsion bars should i go with for the street. I want a stiff/firm car in the corners. What is the stock BB diam. btw

E body K frame is the same sm or Bblk, you just need the Bblk motor mounts for an E body

I'd change the bars to 1" minimum

Cool thx,
As for the torsion bars, some people are just giving me the last 3 numbers which doesn't help figuring out the diam.
someone on CL is selling BB HD Mopar Performance charger ones but he said i think they are .960 or .980

All I can add is I ran large (over 1") tbars & ss springs on a SB 65 dart (came with the ss and the tbars were what I had on hand at the time) & it rode nice & very very solid but the SS springs were too harsh & would have been changed eventually if I had not sold it

From memory, stock TB's with a BB were .94". The .96 or .98 would be a bit stiffer. I run 1" bars on mine (aluminum head BB) and they work great. With the 1" bars you should step up from stock replacement type shocks to control the higher rate.

Bars of same diameter but different lengths have different stiffnesses. A 1" A-body bar is going to be stiffer than a 1" E-body bar because it's shorter.

Just finished swapping a 318 for a 440 on my 70 Cuda and we went with the PST 1.03 for $219 shipped to my door. I listed the older small bars on Craigslist and ended up selling them pretty quickly. So far I am impressed with the PST bars but they are keyed a bit differently and perfectly match the lowered spindles I bought from PST. I don't think their 1.03 bars have much (or any) pre-load from what I can tell.

That would make sense that you'd have less leverage on a shorter bar & actually alot more of the rough ride than I attributed may have been from the Tbars. I got to thinking & blaming it on the SS springs (003 on both sides) since they raised the height up substantially (needed shock extensions) but it was a solid little A body

That list ought to be, of not already, in the Tech/Archives section, assuming its accurate.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
