I went to our local paint supplier again and they finally found a code for F4 to re-paint my 70 Runner. ITs Dupont Chroma Base and only $407.00 dollars a gallon!! HOLY CRAP!
So I check with a PPG supplier out in New York and they say they can mix it in a PPG Deltron Urathane for 176.86 a gallon! BIG DIFFRENCE!
Has anyone used PPG and is the deltron series a comparable product to Chroma Base?
Be careful, 176.86 sounds awful cheap. I just priced a gallon of R4 Deltron basecoat and was told about the same price, but when I asked he said that was Omni basecoat.(Omni is PPG's cheap line) When I told him to give me a price for PPG Deltron, it was $470 a gallon.
$400-500 a gallon is about normal anymore for a high end Urethane.

I had a local paint store jockey try to talk me into the Omni line a few years ago, "everybody uses it" "it's the same stuff" I responded with I'm not everybody and I want the paint to last
And to answer the original question I put Deltron on my Charger 20 years ago, No problems yet

So, when the guy told me it was PPG DELTRON it "could be" Omni brand? Is there such a thing as Omni Deltron?
I've heard of Omni, is it comparable to Nason in Dupont.....Kind of a thin watery paint.
He's being dishonest if he's mixing the terminology. Deltron is Deltron and Omni is Omni, the only common part is PPG makes both of them. It would be like saying "I used to own a Hemi 318"... Chrysler terminology, but different engines.
I could picture somebody trying to pull that, and the low price sounds like lower-end paint.
Just to mention it, I sprayed Nason urethane a few years back and although I was rather concerned with how watery it looked, it turned out quite well, and held its shine for all the time I owned it. Of course, this was a simple, white single-stage paint job.

Ok again here is my PPG name covers ppg deltron dbc ,envirobase ehp, deltron dbu ,omni and omni plus. The omni base coat is cheaper because its thinner and will require more coats witch = more time and labor cost depending on the color. omni mtk is the single stage witch is ok for the money . plus is the best bang for the buck for base coat and spend the x tra on the clear its what protects the color . as far as "dupont" goes they were sold and now called XALTA..... they are dumping people and raising prices to pay investors back your choice

Some colors in Omni are Ok, but anything with "poly" in the original name is going to be trouble. I just painted this 69 Charger in Omni, I looked terrible with poor coverage, and light/ dark areas everywhere. After 4 coats of color.. the paint was transparent like water... Had to reapray the car with DBU base and clear.. wound up costing a ton more for materials, not to mention the labor and delay in getting it done...NO more Omni for me..

I use Shop line from PPG on the 1972 Charger in Detonator Yellow over a gray primer. Had to buy an extra gallon for full coverage.
The Shop Line Sublime I painted on the 1974 Satellite covered nice in two coats.
Always shoot 3 coats of clear and sand it flat. I have no problems. Charger has been painted 4 yrs and still looks good.

Actually my local paint supplier doesn't have the colors to mix a lot of the old colors in chromabase but can do it in nason.
Also to the original poster, remember chromabase is mixed 1 to 1. So you probably don't need a gallon unless your doing the whole car, inside and out. I've resprayed car with a quart that were just repaints.
I use a lot of the nason and I've had great results with the color matching on newer cars. Older cars, it's usually close. Also the nason clear is really good clear for the price, I use it almost on everything.
As far as the delton, highly doubt your getting a gallon of it for under 200. I don't use much ppg anymore, closest place, the prices are insane.
