To get the housing width subtract 5.05" from the axle flange width then factor in the thickness of the drums or discs that mount on the axle flange.

My total rearend with is 51in.wheel mounting flange to flange, what should my housing width be,bearing flange to flange?
2 1/2" axle stand-off per side + whatever the thickness of the drum/rotor.
With drum brakes I would say 45 3/4" bearing flange to bearing flange.
