Hi, we're thinking of a six pack scoop on our 70 Charger (calm down purists, it's a resto-mod).

We have a 440 six-pack almost ready to go in, but would like to get the dims. for both the hole in the hood and scoop placement.
I know the engine's offset, but since we have to take the hood off anyway, we could kill two birds with one stone.

The body shop who did our paint will do the grafting so we need a consensus on the best way to install and best scoop to buy, (standard height).

Thanks all for any info...Joe

Joe, I'm all for building the car the way you want, but 70 Charger hoods are few and far between, no repros avaliable in steel, so before you go and cut a hole, consider a bolt on fiberglass hood from www.usbodysource.com they list about $580 for bolt on, or $320 for lift off, you can have a scoop of your choice added to the hood for an additional $50 + the scoop cost, I'd recommend you have the stock steel hood painted at the same time the car is painted, so when you see how the Charger needs no scoop, and it actually detracts from the cars lines, the stock hood is then merely a bolt on, and painted, ready to go.....6 pack scoop, or any scoop on a 70 Charger hood doesn't belong IMHO

Good idea Dayclona, cost-wise close to a wash as the instructions don't seem too hard.

I'll talk to my son and maybe save a hood as you say..

Ordered the lift-off this morning with the six pack scoop! $418 plus shipping.

Now we'll need to install the four pins and the scoop to the hood, and cutting the hood
for air cleaner hole.

The direction for putting the scoop on look pretty straight-forward, but we sure would appreciate
any tips and measurements that will help us do this correctly.

Some pics and dimensions on the pin's locations, the air cleaner hole and where to buy the pins and
brackets, etc. will be very helpful....Thanks

I would purchase a 69 Roadrunner/Superbee A12 hood pin kit $120 and a set of the A12 rear pin brackets to replace the hood hinges, do it like the factory did to the lift off A12 cars....quite a few sets on Ebay, so shop around, to find the hole locations on the hood, just set up the pins on the car, adjust them so they are really low, just raising the hood off the car, either a dab of paint, or a small dot of masking tape sitting on top of the pins, place the hood as close as possible, so the tape/paint transfers to the underside of the hood when you lower it close to position....just curious as to why you didn't have the scoop added by the mfg (us bodysource, I assume) as it was only a $50 fee for install by the glass shop

mike

Just type in "A12 roadrunner hood pin kit" at Ebay to locate a few sets

If you'd like Joe, I can measure the six pack carbs location from the cowl/fender locations from my own 70 440 6 pack Charger tonight to give you an idea of their location in regards to the hood?

Mike

Below is what you might want to emulate, lift off hood, A12 air cleaner....mind as well do it "right"

(EDIT)
Joe, here's some measurements off my 70 440/6 Charger from the back of the hood, forward down the center of the hood the rear carb air cleaner stud is approx 9" to the stud, again from the back of the hood the front carb air cleaner stud is 19", remember the driveline is offset to the passenger side, the center of both carb studs from the drivers side edge of the hood is approx 27"...if you map out these two marks on the top of your hood, and have the six pack aircleaner top lid, just line up the carb stud holes with the dimensions I gave you, this is where the engine/carbs will sit.....if your going with the lift off design, perhaps you might want to use the lift off air cleaner base and gasket so that you have a true ram air set up, and the carb get fresh air all the time?....while the steel repro bases are spendy, fiberglass repro bottom base plates are available form different sources, Year One, Hybrid Solutions...

the rear brackets and pin sets are available at most of your favorite repo places, YO, Classic, etc. the brackets would be the 69 A12 ones that bolt to the existing hood hinge area. once the bracket is in place you mount the rod/pin and take your measurements. i'm not fimiliar with chargers to much but i would assume the the area where the front hood bumpers on the radiator support are the same as my 69 RR. here's an older pic of where to mount them. hopefully somebody will have something better than my god-aweful pic.

Good decision on not hacking up a good steel hood. You're the winner with either hood.

Wow, thanks for all the good info,
we now have all we need I think to get started.

By the way, I didn't see an option to have the vendor glass in the scoop, I'll call them Monday.

Thanks again, you guys are GREAT!!
