I posted in the Q and A section.Post it here too.Just had the tranny overhauled in my 69 340 Dart.Car is all stock.Had them go ahead and throw a Transgo shift kit in it.Told them nothing to radical as its bone stock. Some thing along a RV shift kit Get the car back and after a few days I stomp on it from a 15 mph roll.It drops to first and the rpms climb well past 6k and I have to get completely out of the gas for it to upshift.Thinking that was weird a few days later I manually shifted it at 5500 and the rpms once again kept climbing well past there.Thoughts? They do have a warranty for a year or 12k miles.

It sounds like the kickdown linkage is holding to much line pressure for the new valve body to shift under 6000 RPM Take it back to the shop and have them adjust it to where you like it You might( I would) want to call Transgo first and make sure that is doable without hurting the tranny with that shift kit

The problem with adjusting the throttle pressure like that is that it will also lower the pressure holding the clutches/bands. While you might be able to get away with it in a low power application like this, it's not the preferred method.

What is strange to me though, is that you said that if you manually shift from 1st to 2nd that it will make the shift at 5500? That is surprising to me because the governor should still be controlling the 1/2 shift even when the selector is in 2nd gear. (for example, if you put the car in 2nd on the shifter, drive normally and it will still make the 1/2 shift.)

Are you certain that the shift was as high as you think it was? You could also try lowering the line pressure slightly to see if that helps.

If you look at his post, it says that the rpms went well past 5500 when he manually shifted also.

Cab's right, it's a throttle pressure issue. Shorten the TP linkage a little at a time until it upshifts without lifting the throttle.
