just looking ahead with what to do with the 33 Ply coupe I have.
I have thought about building a fenderless car,
"BUT" if I go with fenders,
should I build a Cabriolet or a chopped top coupe???

give your opinion.

wack the top no matter which way you decide to go ! I really like 'em low, but that is just me............ refresh my feeble mind on this as it sits now. no matter what your decision, I know it will turn out to be a great build. how are your other projects coming along ?

Eric, I am building a 35 dodge highboy PU right now as a For Sale car to help pay bills and have working capitol for the 33 coupe.
I plan and hope to have 3 cars done this year
this 35 PU
the race truck
and the 33 ply coupe

the coupe is just a body, but I have all new glass fenders, a hood, grill and grill shell, so all I have to do is build the chassis and get it done

NONONONONO!!!!!!!

Those coupes are rare and deserve to live. They already had a "chopped top" look, the top is much lower than a 34 ford.

IMHO cutting the top off one is just plain stupid, you are throwing away the thing that makes them special. And chopping the top turns it into a caricature.

Channel it if you want lower. Aftermarket MII front end will live under the fenders.

I vote for a new Hemi /6-speed for the powertrain.

I know what your saying about a mopar already looks chopped compared to a ford.
here is a chopped mopar coupe compared to a non chopped one.
I Think they both look great
but I like chopped cars

mine will have 18" wide pro street tires (I already have them)
it will have a 440 6 pack and a MVB 727 that I have as well.
would love to go new hemi and a 6 speed but can't afford that, I need to go with what I have.

check out some mopar coupes and Cabriolets here:

Unchopped, full fender, coupe would be my preference, but its not my money, or time, or car. Gene

Maybe the fact that I'm well over 6 feet tall helps explain why I don't think chopping the top is a good idea.

But I think half the appeal of that chopped-top coupe is the dark windows. Darken the windows of the stock roof car and you'll see what I mean.

As for the engine, do what you wish, I'm not paying for it. I think you can save around 300 lb off the front end by using a new Hemi, and make as much usable power.
Note, I said usable power.

Weight distribution will be much better and the car can be made to go around corners, which would be good in my experience, as I drive mountain passes a lot. Like I was doing last night, Wolf Creek Pass in the moonlight is really cool. Wish I had something that handled better than my '64Dog D100! The rear wheel steer from the leaf springs can be a killer.

Anyway, keep it a coupe whatever else you do, I think the fenders add to the character of the car, though.

Congratulations on scoring the best looking coupe!

R.

Bigdad has shown the way. Traditional is the best. Tubbed hot rods look funny.

Unless its a gasser, then that full fender tubbed and chopped one would look cool, imo. bigdad, you always have the best pix!!!

I have that picture of the red one too and it is a nice car If I seen it at a car show I would really check it out and get pics of it.

but it is just not my style of car, traditional style is cool but I like wide tire not wide white wall tires, I like the pro street look and I already have the tires and wheels and they are all paid for

I like the look of these cars with a stock top but really like them with a slight chop like the one I posted.

I was just undecided weather to do it as a cabriolet(which is what I always wanted) or chopped coupe

here is what I have collected already:
440 engine,alum heads
weiand 6 pack setup
mvb 727
14" wide salt flat wheel
18" wide 30" tall Pro Trac tires(brand new)
8 3/4 rear end with 3.55 gears
ladder bars
alum radiator
headers
compete 33 coupe body with all glass fenders.
need to do a frame,I have all the mustang II front end stuff

you see I have a great amount of stuff ready to do this car as a pro street Hot rod

I agree Ron, that chopped and tubbed silver coupe looks bad azz too!! Even if you don't put a straight axle and spokes up front.

those "kidney bean" solid rims might even look better..
