Would a 275 or 255/60/15 tire be too wide for a 15x6 rim? thanks

255 might work but a 275 will "ballon" and you'll wear down the center.

I believe so (too wide of tire). The 275 is almost 11 inches (10.8) of section width which would surely be too much for those rims. As said it'd wear excessively in the tread center from the crowning & you'd lose effective tread contact to the pavement. Not sure on this but iirc you want the tread width (which is less than the section width) to be close to the rim width

I agree with RapidRobert, those tires are too wide. BFG says for a 255/60 the wheel width should be 7"-9" and for 275/60 7.5"-9.5". The chart below shows a 225 being the largest 60 series for a 6" wheel.

I run a 255 on a 7" rim. It's okay, but I don't think I'd want to go to a 6". Could it be done?.... Sure. SHOULD it be done?.... No.

I like that , exactly what I tell people.

255-60-15 at least a 7 inch rim
275-60-15 at least an 8 inch rim.
