i know air grabber vents come black but i have also seen them either red or orange(not exactly sure which color) does anyone know if black was it or not? i just did mine hemi orange EV2 and i am not sure i like it or not. my car is black with a painted silver roof. i am going to do the satin hood stripes.i would like a little distinction between the blacks on the hood.

There is some debate but it is normally accepted that the AG screens are black on painted hoods and red when you have the hood blackout treatment. There are some reported on painted hoods that may be on cars with later production dates. I have owned two original AG Runners, one Hemi and one a 383, both with paintedhoods and black screens. The only one that I know the production date for was the Hemi car and it was November 68. I did buy some screens from the dealer for my non-AG Runner back in the Summer of 1970 and they were red ones. Personally, I prefer red no matter whether it was original or not.

Here is a May 69 built GTX with original vents. Matter of fact there was another set of vents under the others. Both original factory red paint.

The vents on my 69 gtx are black with the air grabber and no black strips on the hood. They also came in red as mentioned above.

what color is the red. i see someone posted ditzler number 7168. i will be calling a friend who is a ppg rep and have him call the color library tomorrow to see if its any good.

OK, so here is what i have found from ppg color library. it was listed in another post that the color was DIA7168. there was a 5 left out at the end and that is why the color came up no good. the number for the red on the scoops is DIA71685. DIA is a lower gloss lacquer paint. when one would order it you can ask for either DIA or DDL, both are lacquer, one is lower gloss and the other is gloss. the DIA may not be available to be mixed as distributors are fazing out lacquer and they may not have the flattening agent. i plan to see whats available tomorrow and will keep anyone interested updated.

They didn't do that for the non-air grabber (closed) inserts so why for the air grabber with or without blackout stripes?? It sure would simplify the production assembly process, black for non-air grabber and all of the cars with the air grabber system with red open vent grilles.

I swear I saw an ad that read that the air grabber came with red vent grilles to show from the outside that it had a fresh air system.

IMO: if all non-air grabber vent inserts were black regardless of blackout hood stripes or not then all of the air grabber vent open grilles should be red.

I think red was a performance accent to the performance hood treatment and black was more to match the look of the solid inserts for people who didn't want the performance hood treatment. I always thought red was advertised as part of the performance hood treatment?

Chrysler industrial red looks very close. You can get it at the auto parts chain stores.
