I have seen cantilevered shocks on the high end supercars and maybe a drift car. This is the first time I have seen it on a road worthy car. Cool video from Mr. Angry on the car here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42GTMDhLG2Y

Very nice/slick video and cool Mustang. I couldn't hear much of the audio, so not sure what I missed. But: 1. I cringed every time I saw the lap belt only worn high up, with no headrest, and a rollbar next to no helmet. 2. Technically the rear coilovers are rocker set-ups, not cantilever? 3. Rocker set-ups are mainly to solve packaging and aero concerns, in this case other then bling and higher COG, not sure what they accomplish, and are still used with the basic panhard bar.
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

Looks like he did this for packaging reasons and the bling factor is secondary and catches the eye since your typical 60's car has leafs or coils under the floorboards.
Not 100% on my terminology.
This would be a cool package in an equally unassuming Plymouth Valiant or the bling when looking at it through the fastback window of an early Barracuda would be different.

could be, it's just wiggling under there.
I've only watched the opening of the vid and I'll watch the whole vid after the movie is over.

Good vid, as all most of Mike's vids. Interesting car.

My terminology is incorrect, it's rocker arm rear coil over suspension: Here is a link from his website on the specs of the car go to customer cars and their car is the first one on the page. http://www.maierracing.com/

Cantilever, rocker arm are same principles. They have the advantage of allowing more travel in tighter confines and also can be setup to be either progressive or digressive or both. Most of the time you need a lot more shock valving and spring rate to really get crazy with motion ratios.
Mopar to the bone!!!

For those of you in Northern, CA. There is a qualifying event for the Optima Challenge this weekend at Laguna Seca. Maiers Mustang is there, as are some of the best pro-touring cars in the country. Since I drove it the cars been updated with a 750 hp Rousch Yates engine with more rubber front and rear. Today was Auto-x and start/stop challenger. Tomorrow is 100% road course. The event is open to spectators - if you can make it, it's worth it to watch.

Almost every school's Formulas SAE team runs that setup due to packaging concerns for at least the rears. Most do it for the fronts too, but I have heard of some teams using torsion bars.
Slackers. Pullrods all around here But having designed the pullrods for our car, pushrods in the back of my Barracuda sounds pretty easy. We run 0.825 and 0.92 MR [Shock/Wheel] on our car
Adding to the terminology debate, to me, it's simply a pushrod design. The force of gravity on the car, pushes the damper into compression. The pushrods are in compression loading. Rocker, cantilever, whatever you want to call it, I call it a bellcrank.

Looking at the video closely around 1:54 mark there is a link that is adjacent to the rear tire that is hanging there unconnected as you can see the rod end bearing. Maybe this is something he disconnects for street driving the car vs tracking it?
Maybe some kind of travel limiter for the rear suspension travel is the only thing I could think of????
Any ideas what do you see there?
Looks like a sway bar endlink to me. If it's detached on one side, it's ineffective and perhaps he uses it for different scenarios. But I sure wouldn't leave it dangling like that.
