I just saw that right before your post, Awesome car!..The engine compartment looks a bit tired, It just shows these cars were not made to last very long, as the amount of rust on parts in the engine area show....

Thanks for sharing that story Mike. The guy that bought and posted the car had better watch out! He stated that the original air was still in the tires. I remember a time (not so long ago) when making comments like that could almost get you hung on.... ahemmm...."certain" forums. 10 pages running and not a single negative comment from the other members. WOW!

Thanks again for posting this survivor story. Interesting to read and nice to see that original untouched cars are still out there!

Dave:

When I read the part about the original air in the tires, YOU were the first one to come to mind! Actually it is a very nice find and an amazing story.

I was criticized via PM for posting it in this part of the forum. Frankly, I thought this section would be the most appropriate as it seems like the more serious people lurk here. To put it in General would have just resulted in negative post after negative post.

I know it's not a Mopar, but if you are a car person at all, you got to be a little amazed.

A classmate came rumping into the parking lot in a nearly new Z28 same color with tan interior and a four speed. He said hop in and we went for a spin. It was my first ride in a Z28 and the fastest thing I had been in prior was a 271 Hp Mustang. Even though he was still getting used to it I could tell it was extremely fast. A week later he out ran the fastest ride at school, a 55 Chevy with a built 350 and 4speed. Then the week after that his folks were coming up on the main drag from a side street and he went by sideways grabbing gears and they took it and sold it and bought a 66 Chevy SS with a 327 powerglide.

Very, very lucky guy!! That car is a museum piece if there ever was a Camaro worthy.

I don't want to get hung up in the coming storm but that engine compartment does look pretty bad for only 1100 miles of use and then storage in a climate controlled area.

It is a really nice car though, no two ways about it.

All that probably means was that it was stored in a heated garage. The humidity fluctuations in Illinois would still have an effect on the car. Also, the engine paint and other finishes applied by the factory back then weren't up to the level of the typical "over restored" cars of today.

That Z28 is just awesome. How do you resist driving such a cool car?

As for some of the earlier comments, I am sure there is some more to that story and I don't bother to follow all of the stupidity that sometimes pervades this site so frankly I can't comment. I guess it's just puzzling to me that there cannot be just plain old discourse without all of the BS. As Jules said, all it does is alienate people from making any worthwhile contributions and that truly is unfortunate. There is no question in my mind that the content and information exchanged on this site has fallen off, no question due to the negative crap that seems to creep into every single post. If it is considered patronizing and azzkissing if a thread doesn't contain rolling eyes or childish sniping then I guess I just don't get it.

My ears were ringing.

"Original air in the tires"...ket's not go there again, k?

What a great find, and I hope it's kept as found. They're only original once.

I hate to be a but I can't recall Chevys of that vintage ever using finned aluminum valve covers. And the more I look at the pictures, the more I'm having a real difficult time with 1100 original miles. Look at the pedal pads. Does that look like only 1100 miles?
