Acquired a '71 TQ #4973. It's got all the stock stuff in it but I intend to use it on a race car. Looking for metering rod PN 16-682 or 16-683 (only concerned about the power step, which is .035" on both). Also looking for a set of the .111" or .125" needle and seat assemblies for the same carb.

Jets would be nice, but in the worst case scenario I'll just drill the stock jets to the size I want.

Anyone know where I can come across this stuff? I understand this was a 1 year only carb. I can get an NOS Strip Kit, but really don't feel like spending the extra $300 that'll cost me.

I believe with a jewelers touch you could evenly sand down the (power) tip to a consistant smaller dia with the right grade of sandpaper. check with your micrometer

Why would you pick a one year only carb that is known for being different from all the other TQs? It has a different metering system. Even Demonsizzler said stay away from that one.

There are thousands of Thermoquads sitting on shelves that are not the odd duck, it's not like they're worth a fortune!

IMHO this is clearly misguided and should be rethought. Perhaps this one-year-only carb has a value to a restorer?

R.

I've got a '72 PN #6139 as well. May end up using that, but I'm admittedly intrigued by the '71. Figured I'd see what I could find for the '71 carb and, worst case, I could always sell the thing. They seem to fetch pretty decent $.

who has it for $300? i think when you go to place the order it shows "no dice" I got lucky and purchased a 4973 from Tonys a few years back that had the strip kit rods, needle and seat and some big jets! i thought someone was making jets but they were about $30 a pair cant remember who.

I had read a good idea else where. Take a AFB rod and re-bend it shorter to the same length as a TQ rod, clip the rest off. Otherwise, a strip kit for That carb is ver hard to find and often expensive.

I might have them as I have a bunch of T/Q / AVS parts from back in the day, give me some time to see what I do have

Appreciate it! If you have any secondary jets bigger than .131" and primary jets bigger than .083", I'm interested! I caved and bought the Strip Kit.

Since you're looking...if you have any metering rods for the later carbs, let me know. I have a partial Strip Kit for those and over the years the .035" and .030" power-step metering rods disappeared.
