I am restoring the A/C system on my 1975 Cordoba. I have completely cleaned out all of the hoses, and the condensor. I have a new evaporator and compressor.

My question is, how much oil do I put in the compressor?

The factory manual says the compressor will have 10-12 ounces in it when new, and 8 ounces in the crankcase after the system has been used. I was trying to put 11 ounces in the compressor, but it won't all fit. The crankcase is full to the fill plug. There is no air in it, and I have rotated the crank, but that didn't help.

Anyone have any ideas?

You are supposed to put 8 ounces in the compresser and 1 ounce in the drier, 2 ounces in the condenser and 1 ounce in the evaporator coil by pouring it into the intake of each coil and the outlet of the drier this prelubes all components and the oil is carried to all components after normal running but you should also prefill the system with dry nitrogen to leak test and this will disperse the oil and prevent oil slugging when the system is first run. Do not forget to turn the compresser through several rotations before you tighten the drive belts.
