68 Charger, original torsion bars. One went back in easy but the passenger side won't line up good enough in the front. Car is on jack stands and I have adjuster and front bolt loose from taking them out. I am getting ready to pull this motor and have come to a complete halt.
Any ideas?
Thanks Mike

If the hex isnt lining up you need to push the lower arm down.I usually take the upper ball joint off then install the bars. They have to be under a slight load on install or the car will sit low and not adjust up.Rocky

Remove the UPPER control arm rebound rubber bumper for more "travel" to index the hex of the bar, only 1 nut to loosen/remove

Do not want to remove the ball joint to fix this if I do not have to! Rebound bumper removal might be easier Maybe just putting some pressure on the top of that side tire???

the lower bolts on, so it would be easier to just unbolt that to give you more movement.

I typically don't try to put it in with the front end assembled.
too much swinging of the arm is needed.

should only cost you 2 cotter pins.

I'd have the tire off as you need the assy you're working on as light & easy to work with as possible. Jack stands under the subframes at a decent height. Have the LCA pretty much out horizontle & put a floor jack under it in the center so you can manipulate its' height slightly as needed. I'd have the square block (the one that the adjust bolt goes thru) out of the D window then with a tire iron lever the nub up till the T bar hex lines up so you can insert the tbar. Then lever the blade that's inside the D window as needed so you can get the block back in there laying correctly as it has notches on the bottom to sit on there flat

Jack the car in a different place as the frame distorts when it's on jacks and stands, check the door alignment when it's jacked up. The frame bends a bit, throws things off. If your talking torsion bars and not the a-arm struts as someone mentioned cotter keys. Torsion bars don't have cotter keys, the struts don't use cotter keys either, they use rolled pins on the front end of the struts. Is the round wire ring that holds the torsion bar in the frame still in the hole?

Thanks for all of the help. I think it was a bit crooked on the jacks and with some adjustments it went back in
