I have looked and haven't found a good answer. MSD digital 6 plus box with msd dist, autometer tach. does the tach pickup hook to the coil or the box?

on a side note I did see its saying not to hook the power wire from the box to the alternator, looks like that's how I had it before on the car but maybe I should move it?

Thanks! Eric.

Hook the tach up to the MSD box.
The MSD's power wire should go directly to the positive battery terminal. I hooked mine to the big post on the starter relay.
MSD's are sensitive to low voltage...that's why they say to hook it directly to the battery.

Eric,

You will hook the tach lead to the box. The car won't run if you try to hook it to the coil and you may kill the tach.

They tell you not to hook to the alternator because you can get fluctuation in voltage and also get some signal interference from the alternator that will mess with the box. Make sure you pull straight off of a battery source like the starter solenoid and be very sure you have the best ground possible. The digital boxes are very sensitive an a questionable ground can cause many headaches. Seen it way too many times.

Gotcha, thanks! Funny the wire is 'missing' but there has been several weird things I've found so far

If you look on the side of the box there is a spot for a female spade terminal to plug into the box (on some of them). That is the tach out put. If you give me the number of the box you are using I can tell you exactly which wire or where to hook the tach lead to.
