Hi guys need help regarding the inland shifter. What was the cut off build date for the change over from an inland to the hurst handle? I was told around Nov 30, 1967.

I am not sure that date is known. I have seen them in Darts built later than Nov. 30th, so it may also depend on what body you are talking about and when they ran out of stock.

Well, this is news that could make me happy.

My 383 Barracuda has a C20 on the fender tag, which would be Dec. 20 1967.
But, I also have the MSO for the car, which has a transfer date from Chrysler to the dealer of 12/16/1967. Car first registered on 1/2/1968; nice Christmas present.

The car had no trans or shifter when I bought it, so, would I be justified in putting a Hurst shifter in it?

I don't think anyone will fault you even if it didn't come with one. I can't wait to get the Inland out of my '68.

I wouldn't fault you either, AZ. Put that thing on a shelf until you're ready to sell it. Unless it's to me, in which case, you can keep it.

Somewhere (but it was over 20 years ago) I got the idea that it was a Jan. 1 change.
I was going to get one of Brewer's Hurst shifters with the bracket for the Inland handle. This will save lots of money.

I'm sure the specific date (around Jan. 1, '68) changed plant to plant & B-body vs. A-body (maybe even console vs. no console).

HURST shifted cars have a "REVERSE" light on the dash, INLAND cars DO NOT. So, an original dash would tell the "truth". Those with Dec. '67 & Jan. '68 cars should share what they find.

A friend of mine liked the Inland better than the Hurst, so it might depend on what you do with the car and how you drive it.

I know that everyone is different and that my Inland is half worn out, but it just seems so clunky and sloppy (and I'm not exactly racing my Fury). Also, I just don't find it as attractive. I can't imagine someone saying they liked them better than a Hurst. Weird.

Really is this true? Can this be verified? My understandig is the dash reverse light came out in 69. That would make if easy. B-body is what I am loking at.

The "REVERSE" light came out for the HURST shifters, INLANDs didn't need it due to the reverse lock-out "T" pull handle linkage.

Oh, yeah. I forgot about that. I'm sure I knew that at one time, since I was so sure the car originally came with an Inland.

The Inland had a reverse lockout mechanism, whereas the Hurst only had a spring to keep you out of reverse. The light was to warn you if you put it in the wrong gear.

Double checked mine. Original dash with no hole for reverse light. Bummer. Looks like I'll be getting a Brewer's conversion shifter after all.

Dec. 20, 1967, C20, on fender tag.

Not a perfect example - but a June '68 Barracuda - WRONG shifter.

Another "close, but not quite" - June '68 hardtop Road Runner, missing the bench seat interior and found a console & related parts. ..... but "I spy!" a "REVERSE" light.

So you're all agreeing. 1968 was the first year for the reverse light if it had a Hurst Shifter. No Reverse light means inland.

I do to. BUT I spy a console and no RR came with a console in 68. Need a better example.

SPD 12/13/67 4-speed GTX NO light. Lots wrong but at least it has a '68 pad unlike the R/T above. Are you looking for pics of a correctly restored car? GOOD LUCK!!

All '68 Bees & hardtop Road Runners should have a HURST shifter - they were introduced after 1/1/68. Who has one w/pics?
