So once again another aftermarket part fails expectations. The repro woodgrain wheel I received looks very, very light in color compared to the worn out one on the car. Also, the new wheel is smooth and seems to have the grain "painted" on. In the remains of the backside of the oe wheel there appears to be texture in the wood. Has anyone encountered an NOS woodgrain wheel and able to describe the correct look? IS the color supposed to be a darker brown that matches the woodgrain inserts on the center console? The grain is supposed to be pressed into the plastic right? Thanks everyone! Mike

I have a NOS woodgrain wheel that is probably of 1970 vintage. The wheel spokes have holes for the 1970 plastic spacer for the locking collar. This is the only picture that I have of it but I can certainly take more close ups later.

I'll assume your talking 1969 since all your other posts are for a 69 Charger.
A 68-69 wood wheel is darker than the 70 wheel. Yes the grain is pressed into the wood and yes the reproductions are great for people that don't any better.

Yes, '69... a nearly 9 year part-time project is getting down to the nitty gritty. Most of the repro stuff looks like ass but it's also great that its available to daily drivers, hot rods etc. Many of us would be screwed without access to those parts. This car however I'm trying to do the best I can with what I have, but I never had any intention of trying to "compete" with guys who can spend $500 on an NOS radiator hose or $300 for an NOS distributor cap. On a side note I have a '70 RT SE Charger that was restored in the mid '90's and I used a lot of good original parts. I was never satisfied with the woodgrain dash and finally ordered a new set of aluminum overlays... then sent them back because the color was awful, looked like a puke green flavor of wood and matched nothing else in the car. So.. I'm "living" with the faded original stuff...it doesn't look as bad as the new repro stuff imo.

I laughed when I read what you said about the woodgrain overlays. And pretty sure I can guess the seller. I ordered and received a set for my 70 GTX and promptly sent them back also. I asked if they would take pieces from different sets to make it look more real but was quickly told they are all the same and everyone else that ordered them have never had a bad thing to say and no one ever sent any back bla bla bla. Yeah right!!!!
As far as Wood Wheels I used to buy one's off of driver simulators that were NOS looking but that well has dried up over the years.

Great pic, thanks. Is the plastic all one color brown or is there a darker color in the grain?

Here is the wood wheel in my '69 Charger. It is restored (I think?) and isn't exactly like an original. I would say it's a bit too smooth and a little too light but looks pretty good in the car.

It is dark in the grain...flash on camera loses that.
NOS in the box wheel.
