65 New Yorker with a 413 and hi-po manifolds. The rag joint assy will touch the flange on the manifold when accelerating. Need to replace the rag joint with something having a smaller diameter. Saw a u-joint on the flaming river site that looks like it might work. Anybody ever use one of these rag joint replacements? Know how they go in? Do you have to cut one of the shafts? Thanks- Pat

Did one on my Duster and the instructions state to cut the shaft and I had to.

Duster had a plunge joint however not a rag joint. Knowing more about body flex and the like I wouldn't do it again.

The rag joint takes out flex of the body/frame under load and is a safety feature in case of front collision. Suggest you keep it. Stiffer engine mounts (eg Schumacher poly locks) and/or shimming the engine mounts up a little may be a better solution.

Several guys over at FCBO have done it and its been discussed quite thoroughly over there. General consensus: Go with the U-joint.

Do you have a part number for the Flaming River "U" joint?
