We plan on running Hot Rod at the IHRA Nitro Jam and need to add weight to the car to meet the minimum weight of 2800 pounds. The car had been scaled previously and had the following weights with 175 pounds in the drivers seat.

765 LF 558 RF
553 LR 563 RR
2439 pounds total

Since then a second battery was added to the right rear and now the heads are being changed from steel to aluminum. So there is probably 25 pounds added to the rear and
50 pounds taken off the front.

So were do you typically add weight or were would you add around 200 pounds?

It has been as fast as 1.37 60`, but it wanted to rip the bumper off. The car did not have wheelie bars then, but I will be adding a set this week. In order to not go on the bumper I I I had to drop the launch rpm to around 2000 rpm. With the drop in launch rpm the 60` time slowed to about 1.40.

The next question is what is the suspension. Can it be adjusted enough to be able to put the weight where you want?
My ol dog has a section of square tubing that is filled with lead. It bolts right at the back of the car, just in front of the rear panel to the roll cage.

Make sure you follow any rules on locating and securing ballast.

The car is a 85 Shelby Charger with 2x3 tube chassis, ladder bar, mustang 2 front end, non adjustable shock front and rear.

then it sounds like you want it on the main hoop
or forward so you can get your rpm back up... what
is the suspension
EDIT
part of the problem is your shocks... you have nothing
to adjust... lower the front of the ladder bars all
the way

So now you're at 2400 and want to go to 2800. The whole car is going to change. Your adding over 15% of the cars total weight. I would add it to the middle of the car low and to the right. The car is already heavy on the left by 200lbs. Adding 400 lbs to the ends of the car will make it less responsive to tuning changes. Good luck trying to secure 400lbs safely and legal to boot.

I just realized I wrote 2800 pounds, should have been 2600 pounds.

Much better. Still would put it on the passenger floor with the ability to move it fore and aft 12" or so. A lttle will go along way. Right now you have aproximatly 53% on the nose. Start adding the center of the weight 53% ahead of the rear axle C/L as concentrated as possible. Adjust forward or back to keep the nose down.

I have a freind who runs a very fast 10.5 tire car that has to add weight to make the minimum, they add it in the middle also right at the center of gravity and move it forward or back as needed for the track conditions That is a very short wheelbase rascal your working on so 1 or 2 inches of weight location can make a bunch of difference on how the car works
