In a couple weeks I will be starting to reassemble my 69 Roadrunner. I have been looking at lots of posts with pictures and have seen some amazing cars. I am starting to paint my parts so they are ready to reassemble. Here is a list of what I need help with determining what color to paint. I have seen pictures of the parts different ways. hopefully someone can chime in and give me the correct color

Rear axle: I have seen entire axle black including center section and have seen center section cast gray.

Rear springs: I have seen semi gloss black and have seen natural steel.

Rear spring shackles and front mounting brackets. Grey or black?

Rear brake hose bracket over rear axle

upper control arms

lower control arms

steering box

steering linkage

battery tray

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is some variation in finishes. Did you take pics and make notes during disassembly?
Are you going for a oem finished car or driver?
Anwser these questions for yourself and them using any data you have (yours or research) you should be able to put together a respectable work.

Battery tray goes body color as it was painted installed on the car along with the body.

The car was already a project when I got it and it was already media blasted and primed so I have no reference.

I would like to restore the car to oem but it certainly will be a driver and not a trailer queen. I just want things to be painted correct so if I am at a cruise in or show I do not have someone picking it apart.

There are variations and differences of opinions on these but as a rule. How you achieve the colors and finishes are up to you. Such as RPM or paint.

Rear axle: I have seen entire axle black including center section and have seen center section cast gray. Center pumpkin is natural.

Rear springs: I have seen semi gloss black and have seen natural steel. Natural unless you can prove yours was black.

Rear spring shackles and front mounting brackets. Grey or black? Natural

Rear brake hose bracket over rear axle. Natural

upper control arms. Natural

lower control arms. Natural dipped in Cosmoline

steering box. Power black, manual natural

steering linkage. Natural

battery tray. Body color

Sway bar - black
Here is a pic of the bottom of an original 70 car for reference. Not exactly like 69 but still a good reference

Mike....thanks for the information. I just can not find anywhere a list of what these items should be. Guess I will just rely on help from people like you.

By the way....what color is the K-Member? Also, I have seen pictures of the core support where the headlight buckets and that area was painted black and even down to the bottom of the core support. Not sure if I want to do what I saw because I want mine to be nice looking as much as I want it to be original. Seems to me that in this case, leaving that area body color and not using the black would look better. Thoughts?

k member is gloss black
most cars had the front supports blacked out
so you wouldn't see any body color thru the grill.
so the black out will look better/more original then body color in that area.

Yes you MUST black out the grill. You can do it messy like the factory or over do it nice. Here is a pic of it done nice and close to factory.
