I got my car back recently from having the rollcage installed. Just wondering how you guys are painting them and what did you use? I'm guessing the easiest thing would be a spray can deal but lets hear what all you folks did, and pics would be cool too. Thanks!

Don't have any pics, but I painted mine with a foam brush(es) and gloss black rustoleum in the can. Holding up fine, other then the door bars where it is scuffed from me getting in and out.

Make sure you have REALLY good lighting though if you do it this way...that way you can see if you laid it on too thick or missed any spots.

If I had to do it again, I would have painted all the bars FIRST with a spray bomb, done the welding, and then touch up the areas with a brush (I installed my own cage so this what I found in hindsight would work and look best)

My car is a 68 Dart, full .083 Chromoly cage with swingout bars. Gearjammer dart is the man and as usual did a great job. Will post some pics later.Just set the engine in for mock up and am hoping to get the cage painted and start working on the outer paint job soon. Wanted to be sure I didn't need to ding or cut or weld anything before the headers got coated or the engine bay painted. It's a tight fit with the 440 in there and I discovered that the wiper motor may not fit with the 8-71 blower. Gonna check that out today.

On the race car I painted it with base coat and a clear
coat but its a complete tube chassis with out the body..
the Rampage I painted with Chassis Saver and a brush
but I'm not real happy with it... I may repaint it with
Rustoleom... the Chassis Saver tends to chip pretty easy

I also painted mine with black rustoleum. But it still get scratches on the drivers door bar from getting in and out of the car. So I put tape around that area by the door. I did not want to use foam there as it would hit against the inside door handle and arm rest. Ron

Duplicolor rattle can. Holding up well and easy to touch up. I did install the stainless covers on the door bars. Beep

I like the Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy in a rattle can. A little tougher than their regular stuff. I even use it for things under the hood, like air cleaners, brackets, pulleys. Holds up well.

Nothing, bare metal. Easy to find cracks and easy to weld on which happens all the time plus is lighter (most important) and never has a chip in it and looks so serious, imo.

Scotchbrite pads and WD 40 keeps it rust free.

Easier to see cracks and bends without paint.;)

Krylon Indoor/Outdoor rattle can if it's not a bare chassis. Spot painting bars in difficult areas, before they go in to stay helps. Easy touch up for wear or modifications.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Mine is single stage urethane. No clear cote since that would be two times the pain. To do it again the hammertone with the foam brush is the ticket. East, cheap, and looks great.
