Ok, I have a 72 Road Runner with a 440, 727 trans. After doing some research I'm staring to think I need a new valve body. Hopefully and not a trans.

The shift from 1-2 is great. the shift from 2-3, well it goes to neutral so I lift then it shifts. there is no slipping or any other problems. so what do you guys think? should I change the valve body? or do I have more serious issues?

Does it have kickdown linkage from the carb? If so, make sure it is adjusted properly first. If not, that is your problem.

More likely the front clutch sealing rings or rubber seals are worn.

If the rubber seals are the problem some "miracle in a bottle" might help. Try Lucas or Trans-X.

'72 FSM I should have used my '73 FSM, it's cleaner.

Going into Neutral at the 2-3 shift is the key, the valve body/linkage is doing its job but the front clutch isn't engaging as it should.
