Ok so I've give up on getting my pans sealed up on my trannys. Ihave tried all the gaskets and new pans. I've paid 2 different shops and the pans still leak. I'm going to clean them up and use some Right Stuff on them. Do I use gaskets with this are just it by its self? And the leaks are from around the pans they have been checked. I still have the old pan on one but have a new pan ready to put on it and I want this to be the last time with this so any info. are tips would be a great help. Thanks Ronnie

You might want to make sure its the pan leaking and not something above it. IE: the fluid will sometimes drain down to the lip of the gasket and disperse along the lip to a low point and then drip. This can lead one to think it's the pan or gasket due to it being wet.

Common areas on a TF that will sometimes cause this
The low reverse band strut seal (don't overlook this one it's notorious for selling pan gaskets)
Dipstick tube
Trans lines and fittings
Shift selector seal
kickdown seal
neutral safety / backup light switch.

I normally clean everything thoroughly with brake clean and wait and watch.

I have heard of sprinkling baby powder around the areas as it will turn pink when it sees the fluid. never tried it but thought I would mention it Keep us posted

I had a crack in the dipstick tube where the "O"-ring goes, that leaked down and looked like a pan gasket leak. The Black Mopar Transmission RTV is what Mopar used as a pan gasket on many of the cars from the factory, and it works great!

I used the Right Stuff on my Dodge Neon trans pan that I could not stop from leaking and it worked perfect. Read and follow the directions on the can. That stuff does make it hard to get the pan back off though. Also double check the dip stick tube and selector shaft seal for leaks as stated above.

Which is why I never have, and never will, use anything more than a fresh gasket on a clean, true surface...

Be it a valve cover, trans pan, or 8 3/4 removable carrier...

I spent a ton of time and money trying to seal a pan.
turned out as said above, the shifter seal.
you can pull that while the pan is on and trans is in the car with the right tools.

it could also be the dip stick or the lines or even where the speedo cable comes out.

clean it off and feel around after a day just to make sure it isn't the pan like you think.

All I have to work with is jack stands but I'm going to get the RR up and clean it up good and see if I can find it for sure. It has a new pan and dip stick tube in it. It has been an on going problem with it, I had a shop to work on it and he guaranteed it wouldn't leak and now he says he is 6-8 months behind so he is out. I'm allmost sure it is the pan on the Swinger because it is the old bent up pan on it, but I have a new one to put on it. I just need some decent temps. where I can work in the shop. Thanks Ronnie
