I'm in need of a source for a vacuum advance for my dual point distributor 3438521. Mine is not holding vacuum and needs to be replaced. I can't find a part number for one of these anywhere and am at a loss. Also, should I be looking specifically for a 340 TA?

Thanks for you help.............

just curious, why are you running the vacuum advance? My T/A seems to run better with the vacuum advance disconnected and blocked.

To be honest I'm not sure if I will need it. I'm still learning the do's and don'ts for this project especially engine related. Are you running dual point distributor with points? I am but with a Pertronix setup.

I'd get a new one from Joesixpack & tune the dist with it. Initial/total(35)/springs/vac adv in order. It does have advantages such as better MPG, cleaner plugs. They ain't terribly expensive & later you can always cap it & see which way works the best for you. there was a recent post where the adv arm was interfering with the P plate so be aware of that but you already have the P system installed so I'm assuming you are good there just that the can wont hold vacuum. Just me I would highly suggest running it in a street app

Because that is the way it is supposed to be on a street driven car, there is a difference between runs better and drivability . Why do you suppose it was put there to begin with ?

I've pm'ed joesixpack so we'll see if he can help. I'm in the middle of restoring the distributor so I haven't installed Pertronix yet but will keep the adv arm issue in mind. Thanks for the the tips on tuning it though I'm not yet quite sure what it means. I have some research to do.

I agree. It will be street driven and I want it to run as best as it can while being as close as it was the day it left the factory.

After all this is my baby

this may be crazy but if a regular can will fit on the side of the dizzy but the dual point arm is different a person might cut/pin the arm from the old can on. It take some swiss watch fabbing skill but there is a fair amount of room in that area. But the can would be different on the outside & I believe you want originality showing so maybe that wouldn't be a good idea. Good luck with everything & holler in the future if you want dist setup help.

Thanks joesixpack. I sent a pm asking you what the difference in vac. advance of the same style/look and thought posting it here may help someone else. There are a couple on ebay that look identical to mine but are listed for other engines. Is there a difference? The spring maybe?

That is an idea and you're right it can be done but as you mentioned, I'd like to keep her as original as possible.

I will take you up on the dist setup
